Yep, that is a bummer. But I have learned over the past 36 \5 years, we will enjoy the show and have fun no matter who plays on the stage.
It is a great weekend of friends, family and music. |

Player cancellations are a built-in fact of life when discussing steel shows.
When a steel fan/hobbyist plans his yearly vacation on attending a show just to see a particular player, he treads on very thin ice and must be prepared for disappointment.
Complaining to the producer of the show about a cancellation he had no control over is a classic case of "don't kill the messenger" if there ever was one. Generally, the cancellation of a headliner, like Mike Johnson, is a headache for a show's promoter more than anything else.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

Well said, Herb. I learned this lesson in Dallas hoping to see Paul Franklin one year and Buddy E another year. Like you said, the producer can't help it and neither can the players. It's a fact of life in show biz |

If Im not mistaken, Mike has a gig the weekend of the convention. He recently accepted a position as the steel player with Reba. As we all know, gigs come first. _________________ Justice Prolite Sd 10 Mullen D10

Arghhhhh. Now this is a bummer, but Herb is right. Well, whose gonna fill his shoes? My vote is for Buck Reid. If not Buck, then the absolutely awesome GD Walker!! _________________ John Brabant

I'd like to see Buck, too, but his tour schedule with Lyle is pretty full right now. It's gonna be a great show anyway. |

John, I believe Lyle splits his year between doing solo/acoustic tours, small combo tours, and Large Band tours. Summertime is Large Band season, and Buck is part of the Large Band. _________________ www.JimCohen.com
