This is so basic I'm almost alarmed to post it, but I've had two separate grommets* point out, like, "whoa, dude." So you guys do know that if you take a couple of 6-inch long sections of 2X4's and put one on the left side of your computer keyboard, and one on the right side (the flat way), you can set a lap steel on top of it and slide it up over the keyboard as needed?
~It's kind of like having a double-neck, only one neck has keys on it.~
And yes the ergonomics are all wrong and hideous for sure, but if ergonomics was the overarching principle in charge of things nobody in their right mind would play steel guitar in the first place. Fat books would work too.
