I awoke this morning at 3am to find a voice mail message from Buzz.
Buzz rarely, if ever gets on the Forum.
I had read a post in Extended Family, stating that Buzz had suffered a stroke. I immediately began trying to reach his daughter, and had left a message requesting a call back.
I was very relieved to hear that it was him calling and not his daughter...
He wanted me to thank all of you that have sent well wishes and prayers on his behalf, he is very moved.. He did sound alert, and focused, but there was no real discussion of his prognosis, or treatment regimen..
He has however suffered 2 strokes. His vision is impaired pretty significantly..and at the moment he is unable to play his guitar...
Buzz is a very rare breed, and at the stratospheric level of musical consciousness in my book. Prayer is a powerful thing.... Please keep him in yours, with me..
I will be headed there as soon as my schedule permits to visit with him... And I'll keep you posted.... Mickey

Hi Mickey:

Thanks for the update on Buzz and we all wish him a speedy recovery.

I made several trips to Australia years ago and would always stop in Las Vegas on my way back ang go to the Highway Casino to hear Buzz play and was impressed
with his effortless steel and guitar playing. He is a gentleman and would sit at my table and chat on his breaks.

Talked to him last night for a while ,,,He's had two strokes , the 1st took out vision in the left eye and the 2nd nearly took out vision in the right. Seems like he's in good spirits and still can rip up the 6 string guitar...Probably will be able to figure out some way to play the steel too. Let's all pray for the best & full recovery. JF

I hope Buzz recovers fully and gets back to picking soon! I first heard Buzz play back in the 1970s and I was blown away. He's a monster guitarist and steel guitarist. Back in the 90's Buzz sat in with my band a couple of times, playing guitar, and he was amazing, as always. He's also a fun guy, lots of stories, lots of jokes, never a dull moment. Get well soon, Buzz.

Jeez, that's so sad to hear. I was just talking about Buzz last night. If he needs anything, let me know. I have his phone number but I don't know if he has mine.

Like Doug and Jerry, I have heard Buzz here in New England. He rips it--on steel AND guitar. Great sense of humor and humility.

Get well soon, Buzz, from a Rhode Island fan.

Prayers for Buzz. What a terrific player. Funny Buzz story...I was visiting with my friend Tommy Wayne in the Vegas area one night. We went to hear Buzz, and Tommy introduced us. We hung around for a while, and Tommy mentioned how Buzz very rarely let anyone sit in on his steel. After hanging for a while, and the topic of me sitting in was raised, Buzz checked my hands to see how sweaty they were. Haha. He has VERY dry hands...like freakishly dry. My hands apparently passed the dryness test, and he graciously let me play a few tunes on his gig. I sat down at his guitar and realized it was a Day setup. Then my head exploded. Winking

God Bless you Buzz, and here's to many more years of your excellence as a musician, and as a person. Cheers!

-Travis

He is on my prayer list.

Our drummer, Andy Rizzo, worked with Buzz in Massachusetts and is in contact with him but hasn't said anything about a stroke. I'll have to ask Andy if he knew about this.

Nice seeing the kind words about my father. Thank you all for your concern. If anyone has experience with devices or methods to deal with no vision I would love to hear it. Especially interested in a tuner that speaks the information so he could be assured he's playing in tune. Those that know him know he tries to never play out of tune! He says he's ok with tuning the guitar by ear but the steel is a mutha'. Has to be something easy to use. No smart phone/Tablet/Computer peripheral. My dad is old school. Thanks all.
