Your input to this forum has given me great support and I am sure many others must be very greatful for the expertise and knowledge you have shared with us.Explanations on paper is one thing but one single demonstration can tell a much larger story than pages with thousands of words can ever do. Lane ur post motivated me to dig out my old book that I purchased about 35 years ago. Thanks for reminding me how good that book is.

Thanks Lane, it never occured to me that I could go to the zero fret by just sliding down, moving behind the nut.
I've always lifted the bar, before I watched your video.

Joachim, if the bar stays on the strings all the way to the rollers, it kinda clangs or knocks or something. I slide ALMOST all the way to the rollers, and lift it (quickly and cleanly I hope) just about 1/16" before it gets there.

This is my version of Silent Night from the book.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeRjJeybWxA

Disclaimer I was in a big rush to make it to Penn Station to catch a train, so there was a lot of pressure to get this done fast. Also, I had only been playing for like 10 months at the point this video was shot so I'm a pretty raw beginner.

Watching your video Lane helped me out a lot as you can see I am lifting up the bar in this shoot and I'm going to try it your way next time.
