Tonight was by far the worst Idol show in the entire history of Idoldom! The only thing keeping me from barfing was the duet with Kaleb and Jena and Kalebs solo performance. _________________ I wanna go back to my little grass shack........ |

I had band rehearsal tonight so I haven't seen it yet, might make an attempt tomorrow evening since I recorded the show.
My wife and I have been off and on viewers of the show over the years, but I've missed the majority of them this season.
I'm not sure if the talent pool is just generally weak this year, or maybe the whole concept is running out of steam. Very few shows last for decades like The Tonight Show, 60 Minutes, or Saturday Night Live.
Idol may have just run its course and is on the way out. _________________ Mark |

It's more about the drama of the contest and the process of molding a singer than it is about finding superior vocalists. I'm not much of a fan of AI or The Voice, but the level of musicianship and vocal ability on The Voice is light years beyond AI. _________________ http://www.steelinstruction.com/

I look at the backup band/people on American Idol.
They are the real stars and play anything thrown at them. _________________ heavily medicated for your safety |

The band on American Idol is GREAT. Wish the vocal talent was there. lol
Where do the singers on The Voice come from ? Those cat's are as good as anything on record these days. I sometime wonder if they are already pro's that have not yet had a chance with a label.
American Idol will need to dig a little deeper in the talent pool if they stay on the air. _________________ Bill |

They thought the grey haired cat looked too old for today's music and dumped him. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, NV400, NV112 . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

I barely drift in and out of range - TV's been in the closet for 5+ years, but I DO like to hear great talent and it's all dribbled online quick enough. I'm not sure it's the "format", or, between all of them, they really have picked all the low-hanging fruit. Yes it's a big country, and yes, there are a whole lot more people who plan to be Fabulous Giant Stars than there are job openings (the already Fabulous seem oddly reluctant to step aside & back to McDonald's french-fry station?)
But they're taking in basically full-time professional singers, now. And it may offer "exposure" but so does a lucky YouTube snowball, and after a decade of watching the #3's and #5's head straight down and out, signing away the best months of your life to Simon Legree may not seem all that appealing. It doesn't even have to be talent-based, just what's left of the pie and how big a slice can you get through which route. |
