We've corralled Dale Thomas to be our January feature... we're doing it one week early, so anyone that wants to make the SWGSA in Phoenix can do both.

http://dalethomasband.com

We've had Dale before and he's always put together a wonderful act. Dale will be backed by our house band, this time consisting of Tom Umberger-guitar, Charlie Irwin-bass, and Ron Erwin-drums.

We'll meet at 2pm, jam to 3pm, then Dale from 3-4pm, then more jamming. We're at our usual venue:

290 West Club
12013 U.S. 290W
Austin, TX 78737
(512) 288-0808

Looking forward to a new year of fun! And if you FB, please join us on our Facebook page:

Dale Thomas is a wonderful player AND singer, and a great guy to boot! He's a Yankee Wink, but he winters in TX and it's to our benefit that this excellent musician chooses to do so.

It will be a great week of music kicking off with Dale as ASGC, then trekking to Phoenix for SWSGA! Can hardly wait for January!

Iowan Dale Thomas started playing steel guitar for audiences in 1950 when he was 12 years old. Dale formed his own band, Dale Thomas and the Bandera Boys, in 1956 where he played steel guitar, guitar, and trumpet. A regular steel guitarist on the Leo Greco TV show from '64-'69, Dale was later featured in his own prime-time television show from 1969-1972, called the Music Manor of Dale Thomas. His current group, The Dale Thomas Band, performs western swing and other dance music in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. Since Dale will be in the area, we were able to lasso him in to play for the Austin Steel Guitar Co-op.

Here are two videos of Dale Thomas, for your listening pleasure!

Dale Thomas is an excellent player, proficient on both necks and he does sing good. I have enjoyed his playing each time I have heard him. You can probably find him hanging out at Pearl's if he is in the area.

Mark your calendars for this Sunday from 2-5pm, folks.
Dale Thomas did a great set last year and we're glad this picking, singing and pedal-mashing "Winter Texan" and is coming back to play for the ASGC again!

Well then, it looks like I'll be attending as well, since the Rodgster is one of my favorite colleagues in the TX "gray dirt" music scene.

I'm hoping mis compadres Jim Loessberg, Dave Biller and Wayne Dahl will make their presence felt as well. THAT would be a jam session to record!!!

Funny you should mention that... I just got my new video setup (Canon XA-20) this morning. Still playing with setting it up... got other cool stuff too (Manfrotto LANC controller). You can control the camera from your iPhone! I'm geekin' out!

Anyway, I'll be recording tomorrow. Just too bad Commander Dave can't be there, he's heavily under the weather right now (broken hip). Get well soon, Dave!

Well, Patrick, thanks for coming out! I was as busy as a one-armed paper hanger that took a knife to a gunfight... or something like that. Never did get the PA mains going... but we still got 'er done.

Here's some shots Chuck Interrante took, thanks for your work Chuck!

Here's Adam Przybyla:

Here's Charlie Irwin, on bass... up in his high register!

Here's Dale, smiling for the camera:

Another shot of Dale, working hard for us:

Here's the rock'n'roll jury, Neil Flanz, Roger Edgington, Dave Biller, and Herb Steiner:

Another shot of Dale, doing the 'mysterious steeler in the black hat' film-noir thing (great shot Chuck!):

Here's Roger again, this time behind the wheel:

Here's Ron Erwin with his tasteful brush technique:

Here's Rose, all business:

Another arty Chuck shot (looks like Dale's hand):

Here's yours truly, smiling like I'm having fun:

Here's Tom Umberger, on guitar... thanks for helping out Tom!

What a blast! We're still open for featured artists in February... if you're interested please contact me. The date will be third Sunday... the 16th.

Here's one for you, Patrick:

I haven't heard George Jones' version yet, but Dale makes it his own, I think.
