What should I use to lubricate Kluson tuning machines?
I just pulled some really gunky ones off of a guitar and thoroughly cleaned them with Naptha. Now I need to re-lubricate them.
I have some "Polylube 1000" grease for bicycle bearings, and some "Labelle 106" white lubricating grease with Teflon.
Will either of these do?

Mark ,While I am not an expert on lubing tuning keys, I would think either of the lubes you mentioned should work fine..
I would think the biggest problem would be getting the lube on the gears themselves where it needs to be..Arent those keys inclosed with just a small hole in the outer case??

| You can get to the gears by unscrewing the phillips screw that holds on the tuning knob, then removing knob with screw and metal lock washer, nylon washer and spacer(careful parts don't get away) then put only the knob back on and turn clockwise and this will move the shaft down enough (usually) to get lubricant in. Becareful not to force turn anything as you can bind them pretty easy. Good luck OPPS!!! I just realized mine were'nt Klusons tuners.
