Very cool. If he played that with Al Kealoha Perry's Singing Surf Riders there could be some Hawaii Calls or other photos of him with this guitar. Looks like a home brew (what's Koa bamboo?) but with Epiphone parts. Those look like the same tuners Rickenbacker used on their Frypans. I don't think I've seen a dual scale lap console before.

Maybe ten years ago, I saw a number of "Hawaii Calls" show photos on eBay... probably taken by a member of the audience. Two of the photos were a close-up shot of David playing what looked to me, to be a double neck koa wood lap steel. I think this is the one I saw in the photos.

His daughter Teri sent me photos of some of his steels that the family retains and this resembles one in particular. The Surfriders label on the steel's top is like those found on at least one other Kelii steel, so chances are this is indeed a unique steel once owned by David. I just fired off an e to her so she can be aware, maybe confirm or even expound on this one's origin and history.
Of course I can't find my stash of pix she sent when I want them..., but this is a great find and it'd be nice if it went back into family hands.
