I like playing along with music that has vocals, helps me practice coming in and out with the singer. Jeff Newman and Mike Headrick have both made some excellent cds that have the full band with vocals and no PSG and I have all that those two have made. I have about worn myself out on those. Is there anyone else who makes play-along cds, sans psg, of a similar quality with vocals? thanks

This is by Dick Meis

http://www.pedalsteelguitar.net/index.php?disp=detail&subcat=bookcde9&id=234

This is a collection of six standards with intros leads and fills + practice tracks.

The leads and intros are great.

The fills are useful.

In terms of difficuly, it is doable but not as easy as falling off a log.

It is pretty much tradiional e9 steel, heavy on the F & D Levers, A & B Pedals and some C lever.

thank you James. I am not familiar with that website and so I will check it out. That sounds more like a course (from which I am sure I can learn much)but what I am really interested in I guess is just tracks but with vocals. I get lost in instrumental tracks and any gigging I get to do is always with a vocalist. Developing that restraint to not play over the singer is hard!! thanks again!

I've got 1, 2 & 3. Real instruments (no midi or BIAB) and good vocals. Professional product. I highly recommend.

Hey Fred, I don't know if these are still available so maybe someone will chime in here. Several years ago Laney Hicks (great country singer who sounds like Connie Smith) and her husband Russ Hicks (great Nashville steeler) put out a series of CD's called You Do The Steel. Each one was a tribute to a singer...Ray Price, Merle Haggard, Kitty Wells, George Jones, Jim Reeves, Connie Smith, Buck Owens, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline. There were about 6 tunes on each CD. Each tune was played twice, both times Laney did the vocals but on one Russ played steel and on the second time through it was your turn. They were at www.russandlaney.com but I just tried it with no luck.

Fred, I have Russ Hicks email address. Just send me an email
and I'll send it to you. I don't ever post email addresses on here
due to hackers and spamers. I have all of Russ & Laney's tracks
and they are really good. He may still have some for sale.
