I got my copy yesterday, and I will admit that it is a great tribute to TWO Bakersfield area players, Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. I think it missed the mark somewhat by not including something from Wynn Stewart. I think that Wynn was a great contributor to the Bakersfield sound, and certainly responsible in helping Merle get started in the recording business. I think that Wynn Stewart is being overlooked when it comes to doing a tribute CD or even being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
If Vince and Paul do a follow-up CD, I hope that they have more of Wynn on it as well as others who might have been involved in developing the great Bakersfield sound.
If there is one song that really pays tribute to the BAKERSFIELD SOUND, it is Red Kilby's CD that has some of that great sound played by Ralph Mooney on a cut called That Bakersfield Sound. If you hear it, you will know what I mean.
Thanks for a great CD, but I hope that the next one will feature more Wynn Stewart.
