My mom (more than) once told me, "Ronnie, that mouth of yours is going to get you in a lot of trouble someday." She passed away before I was 25. I can't say she was right, only that I've spent my life trying to prove her wrong. Thanks again, mom. _________________ HagFan

That couldn't be the same Jimmy Snyder that was a fixture on the LA scene and used to have the house band at the Rag Doll in N. Hollywood back in the 60's, is it?
That Jimmy Snyder would be in his mid-70's fer sure. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Jamie L., I also admire the freedom that Rusty displays in his improvisations, to me, it shows a very highly developed understanding of a skill that eludes many players or musicians. |

joe..i was a few years after you, but remember the howdy club name. i played at the ok corral at franklin and fruitridge.
everyone knew okie paul and ola louise. the bell ave club was renamed 'the detour inn' after paul's hit with detour. that club was a happening spot for many years later as the country comfort lounge. now it's a biker bar...may have finally closed.
i don't think i knew jack (sounds familiar) or shorty. i did know the good old fairgrounds at broadway and stockton blvd. |

I think āSarcastic and Arrogantā is the PSG Coat of Arms
The first PSG player that I saw in person was sarcastic, arrogant and every steel player Iāve really got to know over the years seems to be the same.
These folks that everyone says are so down-home and friendly, will out here in the real world with friends let loose that well hidden sarcasm and arrogance. They paid the price in every way on the PSG and they are at least entitled to that.
Iāve been trying hard to bring my sarcasm and arrogance up to that level.
Iām not saying thatās a good or bad thing Iām just saying itās a āletting off steam guy thingā.
The problem is you canāt cut loose here on the Forum and rightfully so. You have to put on your Sunday School brotherly love face, grin and bare it. Some folks just have trouble doing that. |

thats odd. the few pros Ive met have been incredibly humble, kind and genuine in spirit.
as for the people here putting on a nice face... that is all too true. I go over to facebook and see their blatantly racist and childishly cruel postings and then I realize who am I am talking to when I come over here...which is One of the reasons I seldom visit here anymore. This kind of guy is a hero to you people....not to me.
Id say arrogant and sarcastic might be the SGF's coat of arms, but not the instruments coat of arms...nor the many great players who have come before us.
try being a good person on and OFF the forum. or at least try being the SAME person . or whatever..who cares? |

you do, evidently, if it's keeping you away from the forum.
i took bo's assessment more to mean that lots of steel players have a wild sense of humor and kind of a smart alec tendency....because they like to have fun and party somewhat. i know i do and most people accept my questionable behavior for what it is....not boring.
i'd rather be around laughing people than stiff serious ones. |

I told great Steel playing friend (I'm never sure friend) "they called me about playing that gig but then they called me back and said they had got someone else".
His answer was "what'd you do send them a demo?"
You gotta admit that there is real sarcastic or funny or both.
I went to the one seminar in my life an Icon of PSG was putting on.
I had on my hat, my big earphones and ear monitor amp sitting at my PSG right in front of him and he looked at me and said "An old Sierra? You look like the Red Barron flying a biplane." again funny. sarcastic of both
He said we're going to do this old song for this speed picking and palm blocking part of the lesson.
I ask āis this the same song that's in your old Book?ā He just glared at me.
Later he came by and said "you paid for this course why aren't you playing?" I replied I can't play it like that. I pick-block and I redid your old book for my pick blocking.
He walked away and said ālet's take a pee breakā.
So there was no autographs and showing me pictures of the kids but Iāll have to admit I enjoyed the whole thing.
Next time I'm in the neighborhood I think I'll call him up and tell him Iām dropping by his house for dinner. |

This will sound strange. Me defending BO.
What you have to understand with Bo and all his friends and band associates is that they are constantly brutally sarcastic with each other all in fun (but youāre never really sure) and that makes it more exciting.
If you canāt hold your own or you wimp out show you might have gotten your feelings hurt then youāre look upon as a sissy.
What Bo is saying is that some of these folks are so anal about their PSG pickinā that they canāt lighten up and see that itās OK to be a little arrogant and dish out some sarcasm. Itās just a guy thing. |
