My favorite steel amp is a good Silverface Fender and I love the tone Lindley got with his Dumbles. Why not combine the two?
I found an amp builder willing to try and here is the result:
The Steel Guitar Singer:
Two completely independent channels:
A clean Fenderish pre for the PSG and a modified copy of the 70`s Dumble Overdrive Special front end for lap steel.
The Dumble version of the Fender -style power amp with two 5881 power tubes.
Maybe about 50 watts, loud enough anyway....
Tube buffered effects loop with send and return controls.
Eminence EPS-15 speaker.
Housed in a Mojotone Vibroverb cab and built into a Super Reverb chassis.
Wonderful amp! Warm, clean steel tone, very responsive overdrive with the lap steel..... So, if the stores don`t have what you need, support amp builders and have one made.

Interesting amp. So the lap channel is 50W and the PSG is 100W? Love it. That toggle switch on the front wouldn't last very long in my world, however.

It was close with the Eminence too. The OT in a Super would be between speakers, with the single 15 it`s right in the same place.

Tim, I am very curious about that Sideman amp of yours. I have to play pedal steel and guitar on most gigs, and the Roland cube just isn't doing it for me.
How many watts on the guitar channel? I have a Vintage blackface Deluxe and even that is too loud for my needs. 12-15 watts seem plenty for a guitar amp. I read threads about guys using Fender Twins and I wonder where in the world do you play to need that kind of volume??? |

Both channels join into a 50W output. It's loud.
The reason a Twin or high power amp is necessary in my experience is to push low end at a moderate volume. It's nice to have power even for low volume gigs. A small amp might cut it in a small room - but once you lose low end you'll wish for more. It's better to have it and not use it than to not have it and want it
That said, my 20W amp is perfect for about 75% of what I do. It's small, light and sounds great with steel and guitar. The sideman is the next step up and the steel amp is one more step up at 85W. I can build a 20W amp with a 15" speaker and it might be your jam

The Sideman is not in production yet, is it? I'm going to signup for your page on Facebook and keeo an eye out for it. Your pedal steel channel, is it based on something vintage out there? Or did you start from scratch?
Olli, I totally hijacked your post. You didn't mention who made this amp for you. Does it have reverb? |

Still in prototype phase - follow my Facebook group for status. The PSG channel is my milkman steel amp preamp. It's like a Twin tone stack but jacked for steel
I'll do an official announce here when it's done.

| Just what I've been planning for some time. A little bit of a crap shoot though trying to find a builder and I just can't decide if I should use my 50w Bandmaster Reverb head (maybe with a larger OT) or my 100w Dual Showman Reverb head. Anybody know of any good builders in the Vegas area? |

A guy here in Finland made it. He`s been doing Dumble type stuff and I talked him into combining the Fender and the Dumble.
I opted for no effects on board and a loop that will work with pedals or rack gear.
Reverb pedals are so good nowadays that I don`t miss the spring at all.
Also, I seem to use less and less reverb all the time...
Jeff,the Bandmaster chassis would fit the Vibroverb cabinet perfectly.

This guy here in Finland doesn`t make amps for a living, I had to persuade him to do it.
BTW, a week in I`m lovin the amp even more.. two gigs and two sessions, best tone ever....

More one take noodling. This time on the "Dumble side" of the amp.
Played on my custom Tyyster 25" lap steel.
Compromise setting to make all pup variations sound reasonably good....
1st chorus neck pup w. coil split
2nd chorus neck in full PAF mode
3rd chorus Lollar Chicago steel bridge pup
