Dave, I agree with your analysis 100% Ever since first hearing Lighthouse Tales, I realized that Gary is something special. I read some place where Gary said it's not hard to play a bunch of tunes but the hard part is to find some fresh material to play. So far, Gary, you have found 2 that certainly are fresh and new. I love your quality playing. But please, if you can, do a video of your youtube tunes.
"Lighthouse" was not only a beautiful piece, but also a show and tell in left and right hand technique and some great pedal work

Great Steel Guitar playing. I'll tell you one thing Sid Hudson you are the best. You amaze a lot of people with the way you play the Steel Guitar with a flat pick and two finger picks. I hope Bob up in New York gets you to play at the PSGA next year. You are one amazing person and I'm glad we all down here at my Steel Guitar Jams had a chance to meet you and hear you play the amazing way you pick.
It was aw some when you and Ricky Hagan Jammed together it made the hair on your arms stand right up.
Hope to see you again some day.

This is a great recording! Dave Mudgette, I agree 100% with your comment about this being great music! This is exactly the difference that I was talking about in a recent thread that I started titled "Music or Steel Guitar."
Gary Carter makes great MUSIC. The fact that it happens to be steel guitar is secondary. If Gary Carter puts out a cd, I will buy it the instant that it becomes available. I really wish more steel players would follow his lead.

I agree whole heartedly , Donny, with your thoughts and comments...I'd also rank him among the top 10 in the world...I do believe he is working on a new CD, and yes, when it comes out, I'll definitely have a copy in my collection...In the meantime, we can continue to enjoy his musicianship on the Marty Stewart Show..

Been wearing out the youtube clips of Gary today. He is a top shelf player for sure. He has always been in the background and so he has flown under the radar for the most part for too long. i think this cd is going to be ground breaking.

While there, if your youtube brings it up - click on the Charley Pride on the Marty Stewart Show. Listen to this perfect marriage of fiddle, pedal steel and Charley's voice. Gary and the rest just nailed that one!

That one is great too Ivan! The one I was referring to was San Antone..Man, Gary's steel sounds like the finest church bells ringing..so crystal clear!

Just fine work, Gary!

I enjoy him letting us watch in real time--and the recording almost has the feel of everyone else in the studio together.
Very nice. Must be Marty playing mandolin.

A late answer, but he is a longtime member.

I'll always bump for 'The Lighthouse Tale.'

Earnest Bovine wrote:
Gary's gorgeous sound on this piece is due in no small part to his choice of temperament and scrupulous avoidance of impure intervals.

I hadn't noticed that until mentioned, because of what's not present--including a lot of unnecessary bar movement.
It lets the temperament shine.

Gary comments on this thread about amps:

I personally think he is going direct in Lighthouse Tale; I could be wrong.
At the 3:35 mark, you can hear the delay going on, in such a way that increases delay and softens attack. Just a guess.
