Okay guys, I've got a leg off an old Emmons that will not stay put when you tighten the clutch. I've took it apart and I can't figure out what the problem is. Anybody on here ever have this problem and fix it?
Thanks.

there's a leather washer thingie inside. take a working leg apart to see where it goes and what it looks like. i made one once to fix it. that may (?) be the problem...maybe not..

Would a rubber washer work?

I'm thinking rubber would have too much grip, that's why they chose leather.
Atlas sells clutch kits, but they run like 27 bucks.

Those clutches can get oily from handling and start to slip. You might try cleaning the parts with alcohol. I've done it and it works 50% of the time.

An alternative is to buy a new clutch kit like this...

Edit:
Oops...I guess the kit is out of the question. I take too long typing! Oh Well

The legs have a leather washer, some have a white plastic fitting, Any local leather worker should have a scrap that a new washer or fitting could be constructed from. Another cure. Remove the rubber foot and run a dowel thru the leg till it is solid against the attachment stud at the top. Cut it off even with the end of the leg and put the rubber foot back on. I have dowel rods in all 4 legs of my MSA. I hauled it set up, when I was gigging with it, So the legs could not collapse. Good Luck in getting it fixed and Happy Steelin.

The only thing that is oily or grimy looking is the treads. I can't tell that the leather piece is worn either. I'll see what I can find to make it work.

Thanks for the input guys. The problem is not the clutch or the inside parts after all. It's the threads. I got it figured out now.
