Well....uhh...there is the Promat, which is sort of a slightly updated copy of the Emmons p/p.  |

Those are fasinating guitars. I believe here a while back, Cris Lucker posted a picture of the changer on one but couldn't find with a search. Don't know why I remember that but probably because such an odd looking changer. I also heard that play and sound great.

That Bos-San used to be mine. I gave it to a friend who is now overseas for an extended period of time. It has lots of Emmons parts underneath. Cool guitar and a tremendously beautiful cabinet.
Here are the changer pics and one photo of the undersides with Mike Cass holding the guitar trying to figure out which end to play.

I owned one of those! They were built by Harold Spain of Richmond Virginia.
He built one and gave it too me many years ago. |

It was a collaboration between two men. Kenny Boswell and Harold Spain.
So they named it BosSan. |

San was taken from the name Spain |

Michael amazes me. Michael, How in the world did you get the foresight to collect and save all this stuff. I love it when you post these old brochures.
That Bos-San looks like a cool guitar. Would love to sit behind one some time.

Fellas,
I have played this guitar, and It is wicked cool. It looks cool, sounds cool, and makes you feel cool playing it.
If you are an oddball, this might just be the steel for you. I would get it, I just can't buy one of every guitar ever made, as much as I 'd like to. Jump on it!

I used to own this guitar I got it when I was collecting every pedal steel name beginning with B except BMI.
I can tell you that it has a long LKL throw but everything else is a delight. It is the most beautiful pedal steel I have ever had. And I have a lot. And have had more. Get this thing. If you have a Bos San convention in your community you probably needn't buy more than a single sleeve of Hostess HoHos. More likely just take yourself to lunch.
It is not a beautiful guitar -- it is outstandingly beautiful. Don't be scared of needing any spare parts -- those are just Emmons pp bell cranks and easy bits and pieces.
I have to say again -- the wood is so outstanding, but also the amber tone in the lacquer tint is perfect.

Sid, I seem to remember you getting a great tone out of your BosSan @ the old Stagecoach Club on M'boro Road in Nashville...in the Don Kelley days I think?
fyi, the "Coach" is now a knife & gun club which features a taco wagon permanently installed on the premises...

Mike, it was a knife and gun club when I worked there!
The tacos must be a new addition.
Re: The Bossan. I only played the steel on about 5-6 tunes the entire night. I wouldn't have played it at all but Don insisted.
That thing would not stay in tune if you welded it. It was very sensitive to temperature change. Very sensitive.
One night a drunk fell on top of it and bent the right rear leg.
After they got the ole boy on his feet, the leg on the steel was sticking up in the air about 12 inches.
I loosed the length adjustment on this leg and ran it out until it touched the floor which was about 2 feet behind my steel seat. That’s the way I played her from then on. |
