I have finally found time to download a copy from CD Baby and listened a couple of time. I can't add a lot of to what has already been said other than to say thanks for putting the bass up in the mix too Laughing

Serioulsy, this one is as good as it gets. Thanks for sharing a top quality jazz product with us Jim!

Jim, I just wanted to say what a great job you did putting this material together and enlisting such a solid lineup. I've been disappointed with steel jazz recordings in the past and one of the biggest reasons has always been the rhythm sections. Kudos for doing it right.

The tone and playing is excellent on this record. You have a great touch and spice up your lines nicely with subtle rhythmic enhancements (8th note triplets, etc.), giving the lines a great swinging feel. Your comping is very nice, too, never getting in the way of the piano player (another potential disaster in the wrong hands).

Thanks for a solid recording which will be talked about for a good long while.

Jim - I'll second and third all the good stuff people have said about this CD, especially Mike Neer's very good description of this great CD.

I got mine from CD Baby and have been enjoying it all week. Beautiful sound on your guitar and your ain't bad either. As Mike says, the others guys on the CD are top notch all way.

I really like Black Orpheus and the Jimbeaux Blues with all the other steel players on there. Cool contrasts in styles and they're all great. Keep 'em coming.

Thanks, Howard! Glad you like it. As for "keeping them coming", well, it'll take me awhile to recover from this one, both personally and financially before I undertake another! Check with me in a few years.... Wink

Jim,

Kudos to you for taking on such an ambitious project with the best musicians in your area. I would have been shaking in my boots playing with guys like that. This is the best I've ever heard you play. I am soooo impressed.

My favorite song on the album is Far Wes. I'd never heard it before - now I have to get the Wes Montgomery album too! So much music, so little time to listen. Winking

Thanks, b0b! And for the record, I was shaking in my boots! (You didn't think that was all natural vibrato, did you?) Wink

Glad you like "Far Wes", which is also one of my favorites. It's a cool tune, based on transposed 2-5-1 figures. Not many people are familiar with this song but I stumbled upon it several years ago and it just kinda grabbed me.

Thanks again for the nice words,

Jimbeaux

I didn't want to start a new thread so I brought this one back - necro bump.

==========

I just bought a copy of Jim's CD "Pedal Steel Jazz" and I'm simply blown away!!!!!!! WOW!!!!

This is a great JAZZ CD that just happens to have steel guitar in it. The band is simply great.

If you haven't bought a copy of this CD yet, you need to ASAP!

Well done Jim!

One question: Where's "Pedal Steel Jazz Vol 2" Smile ?
