Co-founder of The Dillards with his brother Rodney and a true innovator on banjo passed away yesterday at 75.
I really love his work on the 2 Dillard and Clark albums.
Recorded with many artists and did a European tour with The Byrds where he started his association with Gene Clark.
Of course the memorable Darling family on The Andy Griffith show played by the Dillards along with Denver Pyle as their father.
We've been losing too many of the great players lately.

Another great one gone. Been a bad year for music so far.

The Dillards made that style of music accessable to a disdainer like myself. True greats, sad to learn of Doug's passing, but he left an high mark.

Glad I got to see that crew at Owensboro and talk to Rodney at IBMA.

I was a fan of the Dillards from the first time I saw them playing The Darlings on Andy Griffith. To this day, their version of "Dooley" is one of my favorite 'grasser tunes.
