I have used stainless flatwounds for years on my gretsch and found them to last much longer than any strings that I have ever used. They sound kinda dead when played dry but fire them up with a good amp and they sing!
Just put some on my old fender 400 and she sound fine!!!!!!!!!! Thanks

I don't know how many hours of playing I have on my C6 strings, but I know I have changed E9th twice since the C6th strings. Although the C6 strings are black in places, they still sound alright. These are really good strings.

Maybe once. They are getting changed tomorrow though, along with the E9. These strings sound good even after the time they should have been changed. I play my C6 very little. Twice a night with one band and maybe 4 times a night with my other band. My C6 strings usually get black from the sweat on my hands and arms. I try to place a cloth over the strings at the bridge, but don't always remember to do it.
I don't change my E9( as much as I should. But I change the 3rd and 5th a couple of times in between full set changes to prevent possible breakage. The rest of the strings currently on my guitar have probably been on there 2 months. They still sound great. I am just having a little tuning drift on string 8. Other than that, they are still going strong.

My question a couple of days ago was,
"Has anyone tried the cryogenic strings on a Stage One?"
Well, no one answered but that's OK.
I figured it out myself.
The answer -- Do what the manufacturer recommends.
That is, use a 22W string.
A 22P sounds awful.
My problem is I ordered cyogenic strings that only come with a 22P.
I will be ordering Live Steel strings tomorrow.
Lesson learned.

Hans,
Depending on your guitar, if you drop your 6th string a whole tone from G# to F#, you might not be able to do so with a wound string. I know that I can't. |

Yesterday I was contacted by Peterson Tuners.
For those of you that own the Peterson StroboPlus HD tuner, you probably are aware that there are a couple of offset tunings available for download in the Peterson’s Library for the Steel Guitar.
Due to requests from the public, Peterson has asked my permission to make my tunings available in their Library for download to the public. Needless to say, I have agreed.
I have been told by Peterson that they are labeled SH9 (for the E9 tuning) and
SH6 (for the C6th tuning).
My tuning offsets do include all of the offsets for all your pedal and knee raises and lowers for both necks.

The more I played the better they felt. After about 30 minutes I put on my regular pair and was shocked at how inferior they felt. The tone was not as good. The tone was thinner sounding with less mid range.
My old picks felt weaker and thinner somehow. (National Picks that have been polished tumbled)
The Hoffmeyer Picks feel stronger and slightly thicker although they are easy to bend and shape.
I did not measure them with a mic.
I have learned that a thumb pick (in my case a Straight Pick) has a great deal to do with tone.
The thinner the pick, the thinner the tone. Too thick of pick will result in too much mid range (Mud).
The Hoffmeyer picks are very comfortable, easy to shape and the tone is fabulous.

| Just put a set of Live Steel nickel strings on my Sho-Bud round-front Pro I last night. I didn't think that guitar could sound any better, but it does! They seem to have a "pure" quality that reminds me of the D'Addario's I've been using for years on my acoustic guitars and mandolins. Now I know why they call them LIVE Steel Strings! I must order a set for my Sho-Bud S-12 that's on the way. |

I put up a new thread about these strings in this same section but I thought I would come in here and comment as well. I have been sliding on a new set of Live Steel Strings for about 2 weeks now. Smooth indeed! I'm noticing that my guitar is just basically responding better to me. I'm noticing a bit more accuracy with age old tuning issues. I'm working them pretty hard and they can take a beating. I'm very excited to have a solution now to my string needs. I can rest easy now knowing that issue is solved. Thanks Sid!

| I put on a set of E9 Stainless a couple days ago that fellow forum member and friend Dennis Lee was kind enough to share. It's all true. WoW... I am a believer! I can't go to another string set now that I've "been experienced". Thanks Dennis and thank you to the Hudson family for providing a great product. I'm going to have to try these on my Telecasters. |
