I am not worthy!!
Incredible quality build, great tuners, tone, light weight, has the "hollow tone".. Tough case also made by Ross Coole.
Thanks to my wife for this beautiful 50th birthday present! Very Happy

That is a true beauty. Even built as a lefty, not just strung that way - very cool.

Enjoy as never before - Cheers Ray

Is that one a long scale, Ron, and what went into your decision towards the scale and a hollow neck?
I know the hollows are considerable more work and expense. A sound clip would be cool.

It's a 22.5 scale.
I've got a solid long-neck frypan--JB, so I didn't want the same thing. The more I play this RC, I really like the shorter scale.
I've been playing it with my in-line tuner on, and the fret lines are exact. Pretty amazing for "poured in frets". It's also nice and light!

Welcome the the Coole club! You just reminded me
that I need to get in touch with Ross to get a hard case
for my fry pan.

That is super sweet. I got an email from Lucky Oceans that he is coming to the states and he is bringing one of these with him. I'd love to get a chance to check it out.

Mike, do you mean to say he's doing some gigs on this trip?

Yes, he has a few gigs with Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) on the eastern side of the country.

Mike, not sure why I even bugged you about the gigs - rhetorical since I have no traveling money - but thanks for the info anyway.

And love that steel! The seafoam case is stunning too.

wow...where are these beautiful cases coming from? Both the red and the seafoam case are the best looking steel cases I've ever seen.

It is hollow all the way through, just like the originals.

John, from my correspondence with Ross, I believe he makes the cases too. He is a luthier with over 35 years experience, makes Weissenborns, resos, ukuleles, his own pickups. Covers the waterfront, you might say.

Thanx, that takes the urgency factor down considerably. I tend to prefer the (also original '30s era) solids, which are easier for Ross to make, and thus cheaper. Win win. Solids tend to have a different, more full, tone.
In case anyone is interested, he's open to making 10 string versions.

I prefer the more raw tone of the hollowneck..
like this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STyeEwF1zdo
Even though I don't really know if Marc's is solid or not. The Ross Coole does have a more hollow-ish sound, which I think is fuller. So tone is definitely individualistic. His PU gives a full creamy sound...I'll make some kind of recording this weekend with my acoustic amp.
I didn't want the same ol pedal steel tone. I don't dig backup tracks, or effects, just straight raw instrument. But thats my thing, nothing towards anyone else.
Ron, why don't you just buy my JB longneck? I'm not going to use it. Comes with RA's new coil-surround and the orig. non-magnetic horse-shoe..orig. case, and neat little note from JB himself!
no pressure. Anyone for that matter.
I wasn't sure about selling it, but if you were interested

Interesting thots, and proposition, Ron, well worth considering.
I've lately been enjoying some unique video of Jerry in New Zealand (thanx to forum member Mac McKenzie!), where he's sounding typically dreamy using one of the JB's, and I could use a long scale, so you've suddenly got me thinking towards adding to my future purchases, as I'll probably not detract a Coole from that once short 'must have' list.
Looking forward to your sound clips, and hope they run the table on steel/amp tone settings. Everything I've heard so far re Coole's are full treble, and that's not my bag. They tend to exude the frypan's classic but sometimes annoying metallic sound, and I'd like to hear the tonal spectrum they avail.
Congrat's on your new beauty!

Big +1 on this, not to diss Lucky Oceans but I really hope to hear if it can nail the classic Hawaiian tone.
