As near as I can tell, the GHS marketing machine comes up with the goofy names for their products. Their nickel wounds are called Boomers, and their stainless wounds are called Super Steels.
They used to call this alloy "Professional". I imagine that they wanted a name change because it implied that their other strings weren't for professional musicians. Then someone in the back office said "don't change the part numbers" which all start with "PR". So they came up with "Progressive".
Either that, or Flo has stock in GHS. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Since you're using them on your guitars, b0b, what do they play like, say compared to Jagwires?
That pic of Flo makes me wonder what you'd look like in your avatar with a bumpit... _________________ Stop by the Steel Store at: www.markvanallen.com

I'm real pleased with the tone and the feel of them, Mark. I didn't have to make any adjustments to my guitar when I put them on.
To me, stainless steel always feels a little rough under my BJS bar. These don't. The tone stayed consistent for the life of the set. The plain strings eventually died as all plain steel strings do and I changed the whole set. The wounds were still sounding good when I replaced them.
They sound brighter than nickel, but not as bright as stainless. Real nice, smooth. I know it sounds like I'm hyping them, but I'm really very happy to have discovered them. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

They already are, Hook. I have all of the GHS singles (plain, nickel, progressive and stainless) available in the forum catalog. People are making sets from them. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I wonder what kind of strings, Flo uses? I used GHS for a long time. May have to try these whenever I buy some more. |

They don't make anything larger than .054 with this alloy. You can order your C6th as singles, and use stainless or nickel (Boomers) for the 10th string. www.steelguitarshopper.com/categories/Strings/single-strings/
I have more E9th sets on the way. The Forum store will be closed next week (vacation). I expect to have the E9th Progressive sets back in stock by the first week of April. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

b0b- Two things. Can you explain the nomenclature system on the gauges for these strings? Only the .011 and .017 have PG after them. I assume the PR after indicates wound?
Also- any chance of .0115 being availble? I have had a religious conversion to .0115 jagwires. Since I started using these, I have NEVER broken a 3rd string, and I am very bad about pre-emptively changing strings. I generally play them til they break, I'm embarassed to say.
So- I'm afraid to go back to .011 on the 3rd. _________________ "You call that thing a guitar?" |

GHS makes those two gauges 011PG and 017PG expressly for pedal guitar. The designation indicates high tension strength. I assume they are a different alloy.
PR means PRogressive wound, which is the designation for the alloy used in the windings.
The GHS .0115 strings are available as singles. It's too hard to track and sync inventory in the two databases when substituting strings. If you need a custom set, you should order it as singles. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |
