Topic: Long LL throw on Stage One-Raises E to F |

Hi Guys!
Wanted to know if anyone that has a Stage One is having any issues with the LL lever on their guitar? Seems like a awful long throw to engage it. Hope Doug E. chimes in here but is there anyway to adjust that lever for a shorter throw?

Assuming you’re talking about Es on 4&8 raising a half step, you could unscrew the nylon hex nut and washer at the changer end of each pull, and carefully move the rods up one slot on each respective finger closer to the body. There is some flex with those rods so you can do this, carefully, while keeping them attached at the bellcrank. If they're already at the top changer hole you could move the pulls one slot away from the guitar on the bellcrank end, if you have the tools and feel comfortable doing that.
You’d then want to unscrew and move the lever stop on LL a little closer to reduce the travel because you will have more throw from the adjustments.
BUT, unless you’re experimenting with a different tuning and/or string guages I can’t see why any of this would be at all necessary. Doug builds these guitars for a specific tuning and sets them up accordingly with good attention to ergonomics and playability.
Interesting that you’re experiencing this. Hopefully you get it sorted out!

It is stopping at the white nylon stops at both end of its travel, correct? As you and I have been through many times that is how it must work, and if it isn't hitting the stops you know how to correct that problem by the write ups I have sent.
If you are referring to the fact that the lever moves quite a bit before it pulls the string, that's just the nature of the beast as it's quite a short pull. It could all be configured such that the lever only moved the amount necessary but then it would be a $2000 guitar.
Don't mess with it to try to make it different or better or you will have other things completely fouled up. |
