On my acoustic guitars, mandos, dobros, I'm in the habit of changing strings one at a time. On my remington D-8, it would be a lot easier to remove all the strings before replacing them, and I can't see any problem doing it that way.
Whaddaya think?

Gary,
I have a Remington S8 and I have string changing down to a science. It takes me about 20 minutes to change an 8 string set, start to finish.
I first take off all of the old strings. I loosen them all at once with a pegwinder. I then cut the strings with a pair of needle nose pliers and then take the old strings off. I then install the new strings, one side at a time. I always start with the string closest to the nut and work my way out. This way I won't block myself out by having strings get in my way. I can;t think of any better way. It works for me.
You made a nice choice with your Steelmaster D8. I should have gotten a double neck when I got mine from Herb a few years ago. But, I can live with what I have

| Hi Gary, Morgan does it the same way I do and it's easier to give er a good cleaning and polishing with all the strings off. |

| Some Steel Players I have known had to change strings more often because they had very sweaty and/or damp hands. This condition would start the Strings corroding and start rusting. I did not have this problem but after a good friend of mine would sit in on my Steel, I knew it wouldn't be long until the strings lost their ring and would have to be replaced. However, back then strings were relatively inexpensive. |
