Bryan Daste and I had a chance to play with the new John Lemay foot pedal on Thurs (8/6).
The first thing we discovered is how clean and clear my steel sounded. We loved the taper control as he could adjust it to feel like his Goodrich and I could adjust it to feel like my Hilton.
It has taper adjustment, drag adjustment, min/max on adjustment, impedance adjustment, indicator light on/off adjustment, stereo in/mono in (single) jack, two wall worts (one plug in 90ยบ to an AC power strip to occupy only on outlet slot), all major mounting brackets can be added.
This is not just another pretty pedal, it is a well designed tool anyone would be proud to own and use. If you just love the feel of your old pot pedal you can make this pedal respond just like it but it will sound 1000% better.
Anyone in the area who would like to come over test drive this great new pedal just give me a call.
Nice job John Lemay, like your new preamp the FP-100 is a winner.

Any Northeast area players who want a demo or a test drive are welcome to contact me as well.
I had a few friends over and we played the FP-100 through a variety of different steels with an assortment of pickups (single coils, humbuckers, alumatones). We also tested it with a number of different amp and speaker combinations. The FP-100 sounded fantastic with all the guitars and rigs.
One interesting feature I noticed is that a very slight tweek if the impedance setting can help with the dynamic response of sometimes unwieldy hi output humbuckers. I play with a heavy hand, and hi output PU's sometimes seem a little "peakey" in their dynamics. Using this feature very judiciously helped me to be able to play with more dynamic control without modifying my general technique.
This is a great feature if you switch between guitars with different pickups.
Of course as has been said before, consistency of tone throughout the taper is what most folks notice first. Variable tapers, pivot points, variable off point, dual outs, tuner out etc etc..loaded with features, but what really grabs me first is the sound and "feel".
Best to all, JW |

I played my first gig with my testor last night very smooth,I'm switching between tapers 3&4,The hardest thing for me to used to is the AC jack,I'm very clumsy but it is a great pedal,Anyone in the Anchorage area who like to test drive it email me.

Ok guys --- question -- if you lift your foot off it will it stay in the same position, or does it float backwards and switch the volume off ??

Dear Paddy
The FP-100 has an adjustable return spring tension. Very easy to set any way you like it. It is easy to set to return to zero at any rate you wish, or can stay where you leave it (C6 players take note). It also has a "drag" adjustment which is a way to set the resistance of movement, from ultra smooth with no resistance, to something requiring a heavier foot, and everything in between.
Of course the way your pedal feels affects the way you use it. My volume pedal technique and control has really improved since I started using this great device.
I really like it a lot. |

Larry
Did you guys do a Hilton vs. Telonics pedal shoot-out?
How does the Telonic sound compared to the Hilton?
Is it any clearer or better than that "great pedal"?
Feel free to spill your guts! |

I'm not into "brand wars" when it comes to guitars or gear. I put out information and try to limit, or at least acknowledge opinion as such. I make every effort to be critical, but not judgmental.
Different rigs speak to players in different ways.
My pedal is available to local players who wish to try it out. How it compares to whatever else anyone is playing is for each individual to decide for themselves, which is all that really matters anyway.
Anyway,I like it a lot..but that is my opinion. I have played them all.
Sincerely,
John |

|
|
The first thing I noticed about the pedal(as I explored the various options) is the amount of thought and engineering that when into the design of the pedal. I'm having lots of fun trying the various options.
Taper Test: On a blind test I randomly switched (button click) through the various tapers at least 3 or 4 times each and played for a while on each one. I always settled on #5(same taper as the Hilton pedal I have) as the one I liked the most.
Taper # 5 = Hilton LED light pedal(old type)
Of course that could change as I try additional things.
The versatility of the pedal is being demonstrated as you read through this post. You can see that various players are selecting different tapers, based on what they personally like. |

Re: A "Hat" controller !!! wow,
Actually I took the info from the shipping invoice and that's the way it was descriped:
1. Guitar Foot Pedal
2. Hat Controller
I've changed it (above) to remote sensor. I'm sure that's what shipping meant. |

I received a Telonics FP-100 about two weeks back and it is the absolute BOMB! I actually don't mind the outboard power supply as much as I thought I would. I think it's worth every penny.

My Pedal arrived last Friday... just pick it up and went to a gig and played with it.... I was really impressed how clean that Pedal works! Yesterday I checked it with my Hilton and my Goodrich and I have to say, the new Telonics is a hair higher build then the other 2!It simulates the 2 Pedals perfect! And, without hurt someone.... it is way cleaner... it's like you plug the steel straight to the amp! This is, what I was looking for a long long time! Thanks for the good job you did! There is only one thing that I don't know... Is this Pedal still working in 8or 10 years? the Hilton and the Goodrich(with Pot-changin) will do that!
just my 2 cents |

My Telonics foot pedal arrived yesterday (thanks for the impressively quick delivery, John) and I spent the entire evening and night trying it out with my recording equipment. Everything that has been said about the pedal is true. It's a really great-sounding piece of equipment with lots of intriguing configuration option. Next step is trying it out at the band rehearsals and gigs.

Is the power adapter as small as the "Hilton" one.
What is the reduced voltage? 9,12 or 24 volts.

It puts out 24 volts DC. All export versions (230 volts) come with a universal power adaptor with various adaptors to fit almost any location. No extra charge for the universal power supply. It is quite small. I don't have one in front of me to measure but can get the measurements for you if you desire.

Re: Is the power adapter as small as the "Hilton" one.
Yes. I don't have the exact measurements but it's about 1" wide and 2.5 " long and outputs 24 Volts @ 0.25A |
