Topic: Why was the Goodrich LDR vol pedal discontinued? |

| I've looked around on the "Search" feature for an answer but can't locate an explanation. Does anyone have any info? I bought one brand new a few years back. |

My understanding is that Phil Goodrich developed and built the LDR and when he passed away they put production of that model on hold ... not sure what Ollie's plans are for the future of this brilliant pedal.... be a shame if they didn't put it back into production because it's a top notch pedal.

| The model was great indoors. Outdoors, if the sunlight hit the pedal, it would not work. I'm just guessing that may be the reason for Goodrich discontinuing it. |

I had the sunlight problem when I first bought my LDR2. It was "old" stock that the vendor I bought it from had. I contacted them, and then Goodrich contacted me to send the pedal back to them to put in plastic "shields" to correct the problem (updating it to the current model). THe first run of pedals had this problem and Goodrich eventually fixed it. I can play anywhere without any problems with sunlight.
The story I got from the vendor, was that Phil was the electronics guy at Goodrich and when he passed on, the pedal was discontinued because Ollie was not the guy who built them and was not that electronically "gifted" (although, I think the Match-Bro is still being built - but not sure). Don't know how true this story is, but if Ollie had the know-how, I'm sure he would be building the pedal.

| Along with the elder Goodrich passing away, the popularity of the Hilton probably also led to the demise. |

No disrespect intended to Keith Hilton, but some people actually prefer the LDR to the Hilton pedal.

Jim Bob -- I have 2 LDR2's and have never had an issue with playing them outside in the sunlight ... If there was a problem they obviously fixed it  These pedals are completely issue free - and right from the start they came with a international power supply which made them very attractive to use 240v guys !! I love them.

| Goodrich made 4 other pedals, and the LDR was their most expensive model. I suspect it was discontinued purely due to a lack of sales. The fact that you or I may like a product means little to a manufacturer if he can't sell enough of them to make a profit. While a few players (including myself) may prefer older designs, most newer players want the "latest and greatest" in technology. |

Paddy, don't take me wrong. I know they are excellent pedals. You apparently have the models where the problem was corrected. One of the players around here, (Missouri), has one of the older models. When we play outdoors, he has to use his Hilton due to the sunlight problem. I'm glad your pedals work with no problem. |

All of the Goodrich LDR's are currently in California, having gone to Jim Palenscar's shop to retire.

| If they were there to retire- I'm in big trouble! I love the LDR series of volume pedals- second only to the new entry from Dave Beaty- the Multi-Taper. |
