Topic: Need some Boston-area gigs |

My swing band, Beats Walkin', has been invited to play a theater gig in Brookline, MA on a Saturday morning in the fall, and we're looking to line up a club gig on the preceding Friday night and/or the Saturday evening.
Can anyone lead me to some contacts for clubs that would enjoy western swing, or even "straight swing", anywhere in the Boston area and environs?

| I`ve got two strikes against me: 1. I just suffered an embarressment from a case of mistaken Email from Jim. 2. And my girl friend, Elaine Ellis recently sneaked Jim`s CD "Finally Here" into the car radio. Thinking it was a C&W station, I quickly remarked, "I`ll bet that`s the Big E" She said no it`s one of Jim Cohen`s swing songs. Sorry Jim, However we`ll see what we can do at this end for fall work. |

After playing Jim's CD "Finally Here", I also can hear a lot of Buddy Emmons in there.

Have you tried accessing the fliers
and newsletters, that give reports
on weekly, or monthly activities
relating to musicians, and clubs?
Better still, try sitting in where
permitted, with a few groups in the
Boston area. If they are fond of
the steel guitar sounds, you will
be "in" for life.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Bill H.: I'm not looking to sit in as an independent steel player; my band is coming thru town and I'm looking to book it into a few more clubs while we're in the area. But maybe the flyers might be helpful: where can I get one of those?
Bill F.: Yes, the Brookline show will be open to the public. I'll let you know when the date is firmed up; that won't be till we line up these other gigs, though, so they all happen the same weekend. Thanks for asking.

Jim, there's a little club north of Boston, in Lynn, called Cellie's that has country music Friday and Sunday nights but, oddly enough, Saturdays are open - last I knew, at least. You might contact Donnie D'Eon (or me, if you don't know Donnie's number).

Thanks, Chris. Just looked at the club listings; there are so many, though, and I'm clueless as to which ones might be a good place for a western swing band. So I welcome any specific suggestions.

Hi Jim,
Yeah, I second that about Johnny D's in Somerville (Somerville is next to Cambridge). Not only does it have a long history of showcasing the "right" bands, the stage is big enough for all you guys. THAT'S the place to try for!
