http://steelguitars.yuku.com

I had this link sent to me. It's almost an exact copy of the Steel Guitar Forum. I see no point whatsover in having multiple identical forums. People won't post the same thing twice, and it will just dilute participation. Sad

Does anyone know of its origin and why it was created ?

I have no clue about that forum but I don`t think we should look at it as a competition or something bad but as one more place for the steel players and enthusiasts to get together..there is also christian steel guitar forum and nobody ever complained abou it...I personaly wish them a good luck...

I don't think of it as "Diluting the Forum". The more good steel guitar information on the internet, the better.

Yuku used to be called EZBoard. It's the company that hosts my "Off Topic" board. Bobbe Seymour had a steel guitar board there for a while - some of you may remember it.

Yuku allows "screen names" and such. There are people who won't join this forum because they don't want their real name visible on the internet. This new Yuku board could be a good place for those people to socialize with other steel guitarists.

There is a British forum called the British Steelies Society. There is also a European Steel Guitar Forum. Both could really do with more participation.

Bobby Lee's forum would not be affected one iota by another forum in the States. Bobbes Seymour's old Forum didn't affect this one, and was quite fun at times but got hi-jacked by one or two idiots who took advantage of the freedom of speech ethic that Bobbe placed on it. A good moderator is required to prevent any forum from disintegrating into areas that could bring about its demise or to keep topics on track, and we are fortunate to have someone who takes the balanced and calculated approach that b0b does.

Thru the years many Steel Guitar sites have come and gone. Some remain.

This Forum has always been supportive, for the reason b0b stated above.

Each new forum has offered something different. Some were more tolerant of politics, some offered a religious slant, some were Chat based, and so on.

This is the first time I've seen the forum Alan linked to. I don't see anything new being offered there.
The categories are exactly like this Forum.
That's sad, as a bit of creativity could help it succeed. Makes ya wonder....

from yuki website:
Quote:
I would like to introduce my self.My real name is John Sliwa but on this forum I go by the name of "Steelguitar" and I am the admin on this web site.

I hope that you will have a good time on this forum and that it will be a helpful web-site.I set this forum up because there are many people that visit "The Steel Guitar Forum" and don't sign up on that web-site for various reasons.
This forum is free and it only requires signing up.How to sign up is listed in the "Forum Policy" section.
I hope to welcome many of you as a new member.

Being active on many Linux and Unix based news groups, one of the main purposes IMHO for anyone to remain incognito would be to bitch and moan, knock procedures, insult competition and conduct scams. This would be a perfect place for Jerry to hang out in. I do agree with b0b's thoughts too. For example, if someone famous (like Buddy Emmons) were to visit a forum with his real name... he'd probably get bombarded with unwanted email... even if only from fans wanting to say hi. OTOH: If you want real feedback on a serious question... I do believe an open forum with user exposure is the way to go. These are just my thoughts. Others will vary.

Without b0b,
and the members of this forum,
many players, including myself, would have NO source of all the diverse topics necessary to become a competent player.
The sharing and integrity of this forum is priceless! No where is there such a source of information gathered, and passed on. From beginner to "pro" levels, all the answers are here.
Sincere thanks to ALL
Rick

I see no problem with this new forum. Although based in the UK, I believe it is intended for all of Europe, and will probably be very helpful to players who don't speak English. And,,,, perhaps "Ben Dover" will join that Forum!

That was my initial feeling. I'm so happy with the way this Forum is operated, and the useful resource that it has become, that I'm concerned about it losing participants. I had the same reservations about the European Steel Guitar Forum, but I joined. I'm all for free speech , as long as we don't fall for the Ancient Romans' battle maxim of "divide and conquer."

Out of curiosity I visited the site and gave it a thorough going over. It only has five active members, is free, and I found nothing that would lure me there again. In fact, If b0b wanted another five bucks I'd gladly mail him a check and stay right here. For the umpteenth time: Thanks, b0b, for a great site.

Respectfully,

Richard

I'll use a little quote from the OMI Company.....this forum can many times be copied but in my opinion IT WILL NEVER EVER BE EQUALED. b0b has built the best steel guitar forum on the internet.

b0b's forum is the real thing & the best there is
it's quite understandable then, that it has served as a model for the various steel communities around the globe
not all people know english sufficiently
even if they did, they need to gather & communicate in their respective tongues & dialects
based on THE Mother Ship, i started up a french steel guit' fo', as to gather the french steelers together
yes Damir, you're still a member there as well as a quite a few fo'bros
i see the Dutch, German, Scandinavian, Italian, British & Europeans are up & running too
Capt' b0b can be proud

I really don't want this forum to be used to finger people on another forum. Seems like a waste of our bandwidth to me.
