“Live Now” – Bob’s NEW Live Album Available Now!

After receiving so many requests for a Live album, we’re pleased to announce that “LIVE NOW” is now available – exclusively at Bob’s website at www.bobbrozman.com Or direct at: https://www3.cruzio.com/w3a187/brozorder.htm

Featuring tracks recorded live in Australia and the US, this is an album that Bob’s fans have been requesting for years. This is also the first solo album that Bob has released since 1991, as intervening years have been filled with 12 collaborative releases. Playing concerts is one place where Bob truly comes alive, taking risks and pushing the limits of his abilities for each audience. This CD contains many songs never recorded before, and represents the culmination of decades of live performing. It includes some popular live favorites, such as “Down The Road Calypso,” “Telephone Arguing Blues,” “Cinemascope,” and “Obvious Blues.” Also included are several new songs with far-flung influences, such as “Debussy in Madagascar,” “Mood Music For People In A Bad Mood,” and “Hawaiian Medley.” “LIVE NOW” also includes duets with Australian harmonica virtuoso Jim Conway and Australian tuba master Carolyn “CAZZBO” Johns. Powerful sounds with no effects – only muscle-power.

New Release with Rene Lacaille coming February 2002!

Exciting news about the Réunion Island Project: the album that Bob and the Rene Lacaille Ensemble recently recorded is ready, and we’re all looking forward to its release February 2002! It will be released worldwide on the World Music Network label (who also released Jin Jin and Nankuru Naisa with Bob and Takashi Hirayasu) post@worldmusic.net

Rene Lacaille is the king of “sega,” a richly polyrhythmic style of music from the hot shores of Réunion Island in the southwest Indian Ocean. “Sega“ combines French, African, Malagasy, and Indian flavors, yielding some of the most rhythmically sophisticated music in the world. Rene sings in the Creole dialect of La Réunion, and plays a host of instruments including the accordion and charango (introduced to him by Bob in 1999). Add to the mix 3-5 percussionists on each song, and Bob’s soulful Hawaiian guitar, percussive rhythm guitar, and charango – the result is a landmark collaboration that really sizzles!

West Coast appearances with George Kahumoku, Ledward Kaapana, Cyril Pahinui

It’s not often that Bob “just happens” to be in the same place at the same time, with so many masters from Hawaii. Recent events have altered Bob’s touring schedule until next year, giving him the chance to do a few concerts closer to home with fellow Dancing Cat artists George Kahumoku, Ledward Kaapana, and Cyril Pahinui.

Australia dates with Jeff lang – JANUARY 2002!

Jeff Lang (www.jefflang.com.au) is one of today’s most exciting new slide guitar artists, a great songwriter, and is well loved in Australia. Bob and Jeff played together at some festivals in Australia and North America this year, and together have found some wonderful new musical territory that showcases the versatility and virtuosity of both musicians. They will be touring the east coast of Australia from Jan 2-15, 2002, and recording the shows for a live album to be released in Australia in April 2002. For more information email mmo@satlink.com.au

Bob will be touring Australia solo in March and early April 2002. For more info, email wineandmusic@bigpond.com

Weekend Workshops in December!

There are only a few weekends each year that Bob’s schedule allows for him to host one-day workshops at his home in Northern California. That time has come again, and we’re looking forward to four days in December that are guaranteed to provide essential tools to expand your skills and enjoyment of playing. We urge you to take advantage of this rare opportunity to spend a stimulating day of hands-on musical growth, lots of playing, new ways of thinking about your music, home-cooked food, and focused jamming. And, it’s a great chance to get some welcome musical R&R before the holidays get into full swing!

Sat. December 1 – A First Look at Open Tunings, Blues, Slide, and Rhythm
Sun. December 2 – A Deeper Look at Open Tunings, Blues, Slide, and Rhythm
Sat. December 8 – Swing, Calypso, Rhythm, and More
Sun. December 9 – depending on interest, either a repeat of Dec. 1, or a Lap Style Workshop.

Please email haleysage@att.net for full descriptions of each workshop, and registration forms.

and finally…
Since the tragic events of September 11, people in all occupations are re-evaluating life’s priorities. Every musician we have spoken to has agreed that the best thing musicians can do right now is to continue playing, writing, creating, and touring, bringing music to people – and adding to the total sum of beauty in the world. Musicians of every country, race, and religion are easily able to communicate, share, and create together – showing that understanding is always possible.
