I just received an E-mail from Luann Beeman, Thom's wife. Thom passed away Feb 12. He was undergoing surgery, and never awoke from the anesthetic.

I don't know any more details.

Thom had a liver transplant in 2000. He was told he was going to be sent home to die because there was none available. The next morning, they had found one and he was operated on. It gave him 9 years of extra time.

One of the things the liver does is to act as a filter for almost everything, including the anesthetic. When it's not working correctly it's difficult to control and know how the body will react. This may have been the problem.

Having been thru a transplant myself I have seen several new friends not make it, and I will always be under strict control by the doctors at UCLA.

The hero here is Luann. This illness is heart wrenching on a wife, to say nothing of his passing. The rock that we have had to stand by, Luann, and for myself, my wife, are nothing short of miracles in themselves.

God bless them both.

This is sad news. I had the pleasure of meeting Thom in Dallas, and use one of his seats. Condolences to his family.
