Does anybody know who's playing the Hawaiian steel tracks on this goofy cartoon? Some of it is pretty crazy...

Not to burst any of you guys bubbles but I have said it before and will say it again and this time with the proof that goes with it.
The songs you hear on this show are mostly done by None other then "George (tjok) The Fretes.
George came from the Indonesian Islands and lived almost all his life in The Netherlands(Europe)
The opening song that you hear on this show is George playing a 7 string Rick with a wahwah pedal.
George was one of the first to use this pedal in public and on Albums.
Here are 3 songs that "Tjok" made very famous and these are used in the "Spongebob" shows.
HONOLULU MARCH
SAMOA HULA
HAWAIIAN PUSSYCAT
All these songs have been recorded in the 70's.Some say that a couple of these have been recorded in Japan because of the sophisticated equipment they had over there back then.I don't know if this is true or not.

I hope that this clears up some questions about this show.
Many times I hear that forumites have played those songs.I have these albums since the early 70's.That makes them almost 40 years old don't it?

The people at Nickelodeon called us (The Blue Hawaiians) to write and record some music for their new show 'SpongeBob Squarepants'. This was back in the late 90's. Jeremy Wakefield was also doing some recording for them. Nickelodeon had some music already from their 'vault', and wanted us to do some things specific to certain episodes. An example is the episode where SpongeBob has the leaf blower. On that one we played from the beginning to the end. The rest of our stuff was cut up into short cues, and used in many episodes in the first season and part of the second season. I think everyone involved in the music for that show did a great job.
BTW, if you check the credits at the end of each episode in the first season, you'll see both The Blue Hawaiians, and Jeremy Wakefield listed. They should have put George's name also.

That only covers part of the score. if you know anything about music to picture and I do, you can't just take pre-recorded stuff an mash it in there. A chunk of the score is set to the picture.
Plus you'll see lower in the thread. Testimony to the contrary. No bubble burst. |
