Years ago I had a Dan Armstrong guitar made by Ampeg.( could be wrong)
It was Acrylic as well. The sound was Fantastic!!!!!
As I recall that Ry Cooder thief (Keith Richard's) in the Rolling Stones used one for his bottle neck work.
Any way it looks like an excellent steel. I'd love to try one.

Even allowing for the perspective created by the camera angle-- would you say the 12th fret is halfway between the nut & bridge? To me it doesn't even look close.
Had a Dan Armstrong plexiglass (lucite?) bass guitar about 30 yrs ago...wish I'd hung on to it.
This one looks pretty cool. Buyer beware, though. (Tell 'em "it's never been played" and CYA?) |

Not sure what kinda plastic mine is, but it's cooler, imo. And it lights up. Two bulbs inside!

Can't go wrong with this clear guitar, particular with it's "maple neck" and "rosewood fingerboard". Huh? Well, at least it "Provides Highest Quality Song (sic)".
These have been at NAMM over the last couple years. I think they look very cool, although the stated 27" scale length is either a deal breaker or a misprint. It does indeed look like a regular guitar neck, which would make slants kind of tough. You know, the closer I look at those pics, it looks like a standard nut, and the action on the bridge looks very low. I'm thinking this thing is actually meant to be played Spanish style and the sellers don't quite get it?

Maybe...but don't standard electric guitar fretboards have 21-24 frets?
I think it's a baritone steel. Hope I'm wrong about the bridge being in the wrong place-- otherwise it may be cool only as a wall-hanger. |

| Looking at their other weird guitars, the scale lengths are all over the map---a 26" 12 string Les Pawl, a 26.5" anchor shaped guitar, a 25" bass----this one looks like a 27" lap steel with a 24" scale fretboard. But the photo angle might be deceptive. |

I bought one of those a few months ago off ebay brand new for around 35 bucks(plus the $50 shipping). I tossed a DiMarzio Fred in it, put one string on to make sure it worked, and forgot about it until now. It has a 24" scale, and actual frets. The nut is cut very low for a lap steel, which is cool for getting that bottleneck kind of sound against the frets, and the tone is great(w/ the DiMarzio and 1 string)... eventually I'll get around to putting a full set on.
At the time, I saw other acrylic lap steels with different names that appeared to be the same guitar, for 3 times what I paid. I guess I showed 'em!

I won the auction for $41.00! 
Still have not received it yet... 
But now I started worring about that "27 inch" scale?
That can't be right?  Any way from looking at the photos a bit closer, it appears the fret board is just glued on top. I could replace it with one of my custom made ones

I received the steel today!
It's is a 24' scale, and yes the strings are low.
I may put a raised nut on it or learn to play like Thumbs Carlile!
I'm happy it looks way cool,& I'll get'her playin...

Got it playin...
I put on my favorite string gauges, installed a raised nut, adjusted the bridge pieces correctly in line and for level string height. Then raised pickup for maximum signal strength. It plays and sounds great.
It's a real eye catcher, but I probably won't gig a lot with it. First of all it's very heavy on my lap!
I also don't want to ding it up. And mostly because it just can't get the tone I have gotten used to with my vintage Silvertone (valco) lap steel.
Maybe a new pickup will really rock my socks off...
any suggestions?

Scroll down they have some interesting pickups there... not "steel-specific" but worth a look-through.

Yeah, he has been listing some of these as "buy it now" and some as auctions... I was blessed!
I played it again today and I am very pleased.
The tone is pretty good, and it has a lot of output signal!
I will experiment with some other pickups, searching for perfection...
