If you only had 3 pedals and you wanted 6th tuning, which ones would you keep, or sacrifice? I'm setting up a practice guitar and want to dedicate it to B6th tuning, but only have 3 pedals. I think I know already what I'll most likely do, but looking for opinions.

Fred,
take a look at Bud Carter's setup. It is by default B6 but does E9. It is the easiest I've seen.

If you have 3 pedals & 3 or 4 knee levers & enough rods & bellcranks you could probably have it all. I used on my first steel which was an old Shobud Baldwin Crossover that would not crossover!! I had 3 pedals on the C6th it they were pedal B, Pedal C & Pedal D and I had the standard knee lever change on the one knee lever the guitar had on it. With pedal B & C together you can get the diminished chords, and that was the main two pedals for me. I did do The Girl From Ipanema with that guitar using the D pedal. but if I had not had any knee levers I would do those pedals I mentioned above.
I have a GFI 10 string with 6 pedals & 5 knee levers that I have a funky E9th/B6th tuning on, its great fun to play.

The middle 3 (p5, p6 and p7) on C6th are the most useful, in my opinion.

I have a lock-in lever on my Excel that pulls it into an A6 very similar to the standard C6 but 3 half-tones lower. I have three of my six pedal set up the way b0b said -- like pedals 5, 6, and 7 on a standard C6 PSG.

On a S-10 with only 3 pedals I'd do this....

Basic tuning, high to low..C# D# B G# F# D# B G# E B

Pedal 1...raise 3rd string B and 4th string G# a whole tone each........

Pedal 2...raise 2nd string D# to E and lower 6th string D# to D....

Pedal 3...Lower 5th string F# to F, raise 9th string E to F, and raise 10th string B to C#.

If I had any knee levers they'd do this.....

KL....lower 3 B to A# (Bb)

KL....raise string 7 B to C, lower string 9 E to D# (Eb), lower string 10 B to G# (Ab)

That would give you enough changes to last a lifetime......JH in Va.

considering all the great non pedal 6th stuff out there, anything you feel like adding would probably be just fine but I'm inclined to go with b0b on this one.

Thanks for the input guys. I use the middle 3 the most right now, so I guess, I wasn't too far off track.
