I just listened to it!!! The tribute that Vince Gill paid John was very fitting. And Tommy, what can I say that has not been said, I'm sitting here listening with cold chills on my arms, and tears in my eyes.

WOW!!! That was great! They play it a second time at 04:37:18 (four hours, thirty seven minutes, eighteen seconds). It's just as good or better than the first time!!

My computer says it can't locate the appropriate software! I really want to hear this. Can anyone send me an mp3 or something similar?
I wish I understood these machines a bit better (computers - not steels); I have a new and quite powerful computer, and high-speed - I'd have expected it to be easier.

Jim, many thanks for the posting and directions.
The fills and solos were very, very well done; a memorable piece of playing.
Which guitar was Tommy playing? Anybody that was there?

Roger - you shouldn't need any special software. My PC played it right away automatically by selecting and using Windows Media Player.
I don't like to rub it in but Tommy's playing and tone is excellent. Was that his MSA Milly or Legend I wonder? |

I use Real Player all the time, but when I clicked on this link, it said 'Real Player needs new software to play this clip'; when I attempt to download the 'new software', it says it's '....unable to locate it'.
It's happening repeatedly; I've tried several times now...

PS: I just e-mailed Dave Robbins - he was there at the show (he's overhauling my Emmons right now) - asking what guitar TW played. he may post here, or he may tell me. I'll pass it on if he does. |

I did get to hear it and yes it did "get up on me"..nobody could have done it finer than Tommy..and in a public way I want to thank Tommy and Teresea for giving Jean such loving support right now...folks, they are the real deal.

Tommy was playing the deep red or maroon(?) MSA Millie that he has been playing for some time. Great looking guitar...and tone? well...listen for yourslf.
Just remember one thing...a great guitar is a great guitar...but it takes "great hands" to get it out there! I think Tommy proved that point with Gill at the Opry.
The same guitar in my hands might have been somewhat less remarkable.

Roger - one way to do this is to temporarily make Windows Media player your default player and disable Real Player. You can then change them back around afterwards.
If I can I'll try to save it as an MP3 (could be quite big) and send it to you.

I really appreciate your patience! I tried again, but this time I didn't get that panel that comes up with the various media-players listed. It's automatically selecting the Real Player.
If you can bear to indulge me further.... how do I disable it? Where, in the bowels of my computer, is the programme to be found?
...or - how do I find (or open) that panel with the different players listed?
You can already see that I'm next to clueless with this genre! I don't want you to have to go to the trouble of sending it - it'd be a personal triumph if I magaged it myself!
I'm afraid that it won't be available for too much longer, though....

Thank you so much to everyone who has responded to this thread. The focus on this topic is meant to pay honor, due respect and adoration to the great John Hughey.
I would also like to point out, Vince Gill has employed and endeared more musicians than any artist I've known in my 35 years as a professional steel guitarist. Vince is exactly as he appears. Always there to help and uplift those who we as musicians know deserve recognition for giving their lives to music. Vince has provided a lucritive living in music for so many.
A greater musical pair has never been as John Hughey and Vince Gill. |

Sorry, Tommy - I expressed myself badly. I meant to say that the performance of the song that night was the subject of this discussion, inspired as it was by the passing of a wonderful musician and human being.
I was touring with Harold Bradley many years ago, and told me several heart-warming stories about the kindness and consideration shown by Vince Gill to the working musician. His relationship with John Hughey seems to have been very special.

| Beautiful playing Tommy--so much emotion. I'm sure Vince is a great guy to work with as he always gives credit where it's due to all his musicians, having worked as a sideman and a session musician himself he knows what it's like on both sides of the fence. Some choose to forget but not Vince. |
