The universe has always been surrounded by nothing, as far as we know, but it has never consisted of nothing, because, even at the time of the singularity, the singularity existed. Nothing can come out of nothing, so there must always have been something.

As for the universe, I saw a report the says scientists may have thought there may have been something where there is nothing...

Nothing is something. It is nothing. This image might help. The solid black area outside of the cone is nothing. That is what the universe is expanding into.

Sorry, I don't buy it.

Nothing is real. It better be. I've spent a lot of money on nothing.

Could someone tell me if I'm doing nothing wrong?
I practiced nothing all last week but my PSG playing has not improved!

There has to be nothing in the area into which the universe is expanding. If there were something then it would already be part of the universe.

Like most things in this thread, it's a matter of terminology.

When discussing a noun which has no meaning other than the nonexistence of another noun, and people treat it as though it has a meaning in itself, you're bound to get confusion, which is the main discussion in this thread. Everything about nothing has been discussed many times over. The thread becomes repetitive because people don't read the previous ten years' postings before they post. Rolling Eyes

bOb Pray tell and what was next to nothing and why would you not share with the rest of us unless next to nothing itself is what you found so in that case thank you although I don't know what next to nothing is but your effort as is also with the forum very much appreciated. Confused

Until yesterday, forum members had posted nothing here for six solid weeks. That takes stamina.
