This was my band for a number of years,Southern Pride...i was playing a new Marlen Custom SD10...around the time of this pic, i returned from a gig one morning to find my house had burned to the ground.Club was called SunDance Western Saloon,i believe...the owner was a great guy, always treated us really special & was pretty generous with the raises...unusual...This was during a great time in North Carolina music,Super Grit Cowboy Band(still with us)Bill Lyerly Band,Tumbleweed Band,Lariat Sam,Sutter's Gold Streak,Bruce Frye & The Lonely Riders,Wild 'n' Wooly/Johnny Owens Band...truly wonderful times !!!

I admire Mike Kelley's work very much. Saddened to hear of his passing earlier this year. I also admire and listen to a lot of "noise/complicated" music, like Einstrezenden Neuabauten and Throbbing Gristle, coil. I played in Arson for a few years. Is there any tape or video of this performance at The Box? Thanks.

Just thought I would post one of the best pictures I have of Smiley Roberts on his De kek ly.

This was a very good band "Nam 65" I'm back last on right. Not much singing then.

Well, not the best picture in the world, but meet "Blessed Assurance Ministries"...

We were privileged & blessed to travel and minister for 11 years across E TN, N GA, & W NC. One of the highlights was opening for Naomi and the Segos, but the best services were in jails and nursing homes. We operated 100% on love offerings, and were never in the red. And yes, I miss it.

I'm on the left singing bass, next to my right is Debra Boyd singing alto, to her right Lisa Martin singing soprano, and to her right, Clifford Elkins singing tenor. My wife Jean played piano. We sang a mix of traditional, southern and convention style gospel.

You know, looking at all these pics, I think I have figured out some of the groups didn't hire the steel player to play steel, they wanted a chaperone! Very Happy

GREAT pics folks, and I'm sure some great memories.

This confirms what I've thought all along: steel players are the homeliest musicians in the band!

Just kidding, maybe
