The 'Saddle Up and Boogie' site seems to be down now, as well as her Email address.
Her WS group had at least a couple of good CDs out, and at last I heard, she was playing in a Hawaiian group too, and quite happy.
I do hope all is well with this fine steelin' lady.

| A buddy of mine was on a Hawaiian gig with Patti recently playing for local slack key great Patrick Landeza. My band did a gig with Saddle Up and Boogie a couple of years ago and Patti 'bout stole the show with her excellent steeling. I heard she also has a regular gig at a campground down around Santa Cruz where she leads the sing around the camp fire type of thing. Terrific gal. I've seen her here on the forum a few times. |

I just played a gig with Patti last Friday and the Island Breeze band. I played my Tele and Patti played steel on her new Cruztone and she and Colin's guitar sounded fantastic.
I'm subbing for Patti tomorrow night with Island Breeze as Patti has a prior commitment with another band she works with. I'll be playing my D-8 Stringmaster so if anyone is in the Santa Cruz area come on down! |

Howdy and Aloha to all.
Ron, thanks for checkin' in on my wherebouts'. I live in Felton, 6 miles from Santa Cruz in the S.C. mountains. I am playing more music these days than I have since back in the day - Roanoke, VA., when I took lessons from Elmer Ridenhour (Wayne & Jerry Newton's teacher) and giged weekends.
The Saddle Up band gave me the jumpstart and I do miss that W.S. Fortunately two of the players and I are the core of "Word of Mouth" and we gig regularly at Severino's in Aptos, as does the Island Breeze Band. Last year, our exceptional guitarist Jay Schlotterbeck moved to Cottage Grove, Ore. and that leaves us with looking for subs when we gig. If anyone is near that area, just south of Eugene, I strongly suggest getting in touch with Jay. I have the info. to reach him. (By the way, I have Saddle Up cd's if anyone is interested.
Roger, yes I have a Cruztone and love everything about it!
Billy, who is your friend that played with Patrick and what band were you in that did the gig with Saddle Up?
The gig I have done for years is at Roaring Camp Railroad singing and playing acoustic/electric (with a looper) for groups and on the porch of the general store there.

| Patti, the friend who played with you is bassist Steven Strauss. He is also a terrrific uke player. He said nice things about your playing. The band I was with when we did the gig together was Cari Lee and the Saddle-ites. They're a little more on the rockabilly side. Anymore Saddlin up and boogien' these days? |

Here are a couple of shots of the Santa Cruz Queen of Steel, Patti Maxine. She carried on a sweet and playful musical conversation with Freddie during their performance of Nightlife. We heard just a smidge of her beautiful voice on that song, and she was a big hit with the crowd.
The bottom shot belies the fact that the Kuumbwa Jazz center was 3/4 full.

What a small world. Elmer indeed was influential in the lives of many people and in promoting the steel guitar. He also ran a music store.
I have many fond memories of Elmer. I met him in 1985 in Winchester at the IHSGA Steel Guitar Convention. I would see him at generally two conventions a year and sometimes three. He always put on a good program of electric and acoustic steel. To start his program he would often put his acoustic steel around his neck and coming marching down the aisle like a musical troubadour. He often would bring a pretty girl to sing or dance. He was always entertaining.
I was at the ceremony on the Beach at Waikiki after his passed on when his ashes were dispersed to the oceans. This is how some famous Hawaiian people and others want their final ceremony to be and that is what Elmer wanted. May his soul rest in peace.
