...so far, for me, has been to learn some jazz chords. By doing this I was forced to: learn some chord theory (hmmm what is the 9th note in Bb?); find the best voicing for the chords (six string lap steel); become adept at moving from chord to chord up and down the neck. Going through these different blues progressions in the link below was a good exercise... However I'm still looking for a good 3-note major 7th voicing...

Harry, minor triads can be substituted for Maj7ths. Am = FMaj7th etc. All that's missing is the tonic (root note) - and the bass player is sure to have that covered.

Well I know one which is fun, . . .if you're (low to high) C,E,G,A,C,E;
pull your 3rd string behind the bar at any fret up a whole step, and you can rake all 6 strings. I'm gonna pay attention to this thread, as I'm gonna give Rick's example a try . . . and any others that pop up . . .
