My school system has decided to close the shops in the middle schools. I will be transferred to the hs probably teaching home improvement. Boy, will I miss having a shop at my disposal. Anyway, the forum has been very good to me. If I can help anyone out with something, now's the time to step up. I have brass, aluminum, copper, mild steel, no stainless. I've made a few stringmaster blend knobs last year. I can make one if it's missing, no stockpiling please.

Ron. Send me a nice old lathe!
I was reading some machinist books recently and looking at the pictures of high school machine shop classes of years gone by with 30 and 40 new South Bend lathes with a high school kid behind each of them learning how to run them so he could move into a manufacturing job---that is all gone now. There is a discussion over in the no peddlers section about the new Fender lap steel and the topic has drifted into USA made Vs. Pacific Rim made and how it is just a fact of the new economy here in America. I am not saying good or bad, just not the same as it was so you have to adapt. The closing of machine shop classes and wood shop classes for young high school students is not suprising to me---a bit discouraging but that is that. Also we are now in a world with skilled manufacturing work forces in countries where workers salaries are about $1000 a year. Hard for America to compete with that. Best of luck to you Ron. |

You been peekin' at my R&D files, Ron!?
You know, some tuner-stem-up aluminum zig-zag tuner racks or rails ...drilled / spaced for a decent range of tuners ...with countersunck mounting holes on each end, ...would be a pretty desireable thang.

Ron,
I'm trying to replace a couple of metal tuner buttons on an old Rickenbacher. Do you think you could make a couple of those if I sent you a broken one?
