10 string non pedal from emmons parts

I have this 10 string non pedal steel made from emmons parts. I have c6 strings on ot and of course tuned it to c6. All my life I have played e9 pedal steel and love it. However I want a change. What is the best way for me to learn the melody scales? ASny books or suggestions.
