Here's a 1:1 comparison of A6 to B11 ... (lo to hi)

A6 ... C# E F# A C# E

B11 ... C# D# F# A C# E

I have written B11 out as an "A" tuning ...

A common variant to B11 would have a B on the bottom ...

But that sets up that 2,5,6 (B, E, F#) "Just Intonation" problem ...

And for me ... that ruins my pretty strum ...

I really put in some time here ... cause I haven't done the ... 135 ... on top yet.

And I don't want y'all to think I'm stackin' the deck when I "unleash" C6/A7 on you tomorrow ...

These two are so packed with "goodies" ... I'd be hard pressed to choose between them ...

What are y'alls opinions ... ???

A parallel would be C6 vs. D9, the latter being another 6th-derived tuning with the 5th flatted to form a nice 9th chord (just like B11). David Keli'i seemed to like the D9 a lot more than B11, perhaps because it was so much closer and a quick retune from C6. Of course he didn't have the 5th on top, as the B11 affords. But the D9 has a unique timbre all its own.

Here's an example of a tune in D9 tuning. It's Doug Smith doing 'Jazzin' The Strings' from his page on the HSGA website.

Doug Smith - Jazzin' The Strings - D9 Tuning

D9 is a very cool tuning. You can do a lot of B11 type things and you still have the minor triad on the top three strings.
