The accordion player in my band wants to buy a specific microphone for his instrument. His choice would go to a pair of Nady CM55 and mine would be focused on the AKG C516.
May have I the advice of fellow sound engineers concerning the experience you may have with accordions?
Thanks
Fred

In my experience recording accordians, I found that I never liked condenser mic's on them. Reed instruments like accordians and harmonicas have so much complex energy in the high frequencies, that a slower, mellower dynamic mic always did the trick for me. My favorite accordian mics were the Sennheiser 409. They don't make them anymore, but they do have what's called the e906 which is very, very close. Do not mistake the e906 for the 609 which is not as close. I bet some of these newer ribbons mic's would do great as well. Look at the Shinybox mic's, or the Cascade Fathead.

Thanx Brad, your choice would be perfect for a unmoving musician, but the guy in question is quite an excited fellow, so he wants to have a mike ON its instrument. The AKG seemed a good compromise for me.
What do you think of this?
