I got a copy of REASON a week or so back,
finaly got it installed and have been having
an interesting time with it.
Next month some member of 'The Prodigy' will be here,
and my friend wants to do some dance trax,
REASON seems pretty good for that.
I think The Prodigy had a hand in it's design.
Lots of little synths and samples
and decent drum loops etc.
And a fun graphic interface.
Flip the rack and the graphic wires wiggle. 
Not for the classic steel music most of you make,
but still possible to do backing tracks MUCH hipper than BiaB.
You would need your pre-production hat on,
but clearly possible to do nice backing tracks.
Even on anti-histamines for a bad cold,
I did 3 tracks each much different than the other,
without cracking more than a page or so of manuals.
I didn't want to drive the motorcycle,
but could still program this unit.
Anybody else use this interesting tool set?

I'm the Reason Guru in our College, and I use Reason for far more composition tasks than the quick ,loop based synth/dance stuff.
There are some good sampled strings on the Strings Refill, so I have created whole string arrangements.
I nearly always use a quick Redrum pattern as an alternative to a click track, it's a finer resolution to play to if you have 8th notes on Hi Hat, and you can mark the breaks etc with little fills.
When you get to the more sound design side of things, building Combinators with the Matrix Sequencer, Malmstrom synth, the Vocoder and the Effects modules can produce just about anything.
It's a brilliant progamme!
You should go see Prodigy- they are very good live.

Hi Dave.
I have seen Prodigy on tv, yeah they are definitly unique units.
I am not sure which one of them will be here,
but I will have access to some of their stuff
to re-sample and use.
I am just begining to get a handle on Combinator.
But have messed with the matrix seq.
and used 2 or 3 for effects in sync.
I wish this was a plug in for Digital Performer,
but it stands alone pretty well.
I would be interested in seeing some of your combinator patchs.
ReDrum seems pretty fast for backing click basics.

It does Rewire into ProTools, Cubase and Logic.
I guess there is a price to pay for the extra precision of the Audio editing in DP.
Still it's no hardship to save the whole Reason song as audio then drop it into DP.
Incidentally, the Spider splitter will allow one Matrix to control up to four other modules.

I have Mach 5 and having this side by side seems darned powerful.
Gonna look into the Spider too.
Only so much time was available to mess with it.
And read on it in a non-dyslexic way...
But it sure has possibilities!
