I tried out Audacity and recorded one of my old Cassette tape song "What'll I Do", using line in,and it sounded real clean and good tone , etc. Then I exported it to a Wav file and named it and saved it. and played it on Windows media player and it didnt sound anywhere near as good, in fact , unacceptable. What happened? Anyone one got any ideas that are using Audacity.? I could have exported it in MP3 ,but not familiar if MP3"s are playable by all players. There is no manual that I am aware of that would tell me alll the exact steps to take. This one isn't bad but could do better with a manual. Of course , what can I expect , it is Free....al

Burn it to CD and play it in a regular domestic CD player.
I found out (the hard way) when I did my first vinyl to CD using Audacity.
I didn't realise that I had pressed 'Bass Boost' on my speakers when doing the initial recording and editing, and I used EQ to get what I thought was a good sound.
Of course, the finished result was way to trebly and lacking in bass when played back on my car CD player. |

I have uploaded minidisc recordings into Audacity. then to save the file I clicked MP3. once on my screen it was easy to put it onto the playlist. then I burned a CD.
on my home stereo it sounded great. very true to the original. in fact, I had to turn my stereo down , because I had recorded it , apparently, louder than my store bought CDs.
it is true WAV should be better than MP3.
I chose MP3 because it seemed more portable on the internet.
Al, I kept the recording mic on the computer screen at 5.
the bars bounced upwards to the max, but never over.
I think it turned out fine.
your recordings should upload and sound just like the original.
i like the idea of checking volume knobs on the playback stuff.

I always use this piece of software to do all this..
http://www.polderbits.com/
that turns it into wav to and then I edit it to mp3(when i want or not)with CdEx.
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
Polderbits is one with a trial version but the CDex is free....
