there are several condersor mics available in the $99 to $299 price range. Does anyone have a preferance? What's the best value? Need to buy one, to many choices and to much hype.

I didn't want to lay out a huge amount so for vocals, I bought a new CAD GXL2400 which included the shock mount and 20' XLR cable off of Ebay for $79.00

I tried it out on my Yamaha AW4416 DAW and was extremely happy with the way it sounded. I think they are made in China but for what you get and the sound it produced, it is a good inexpensive way to go if you are just getting into recording at home.

Some of my favorites:

Audio Technica 4047 (a little out of the stated price range but used ones can be had)

Audio Technica 4033 (maybe the best all-around workhorse of the bunch)

Studio Projects C-1

MXL V69

I own all of these myself, and all can work well depending upon the source and the preamp used.....

+1 for the Studio Projects C1. Great large diaphragm condenser.

yeah, a vote for these too.
the C-1 is a great value.
And their tube version T-1 is very, very nice also.
I AB'd their stereo one with a Neuman stereo
and could hear no difference that I could quantify.

'Nother vote for the Studio Projects C1 -- really nice for the price. I had the T3, but for my ears and level of output (I'm a hobbiest) couldn't justify keeping it over selling it for something else...

You can get them new on ebay for $200 shipped, which I think is the way to go instead of $150 used on ebay.

Thanks to each of you for your reply-it appears that the Studio Projects C-1 is the best bet. So I will begin my quest to aquire one.
