Bounce it over with the hiss...There is tons of software that should be able to filter out alot of it.

Jim, Sonic Foundry Noise Reduction plug in will take out the hiss.
John, Cakewalk has a FX plug in that will put the tape hiss in your recording.

Sonicfoundery seems to make pretty good tools.
Always a fight between hiss and cymbals.
gain one loss the other.
I like to add 78 record sound occasionally.

The best thing I ever used was a Burwin noise reduction unit.
It was able to distinguish between hiss and source material.
This was 20-ish years ago, I see them every once in awhile on eBay....it was like a smart shelving filter, you just dialed the one knob down until the hiss went away.
I don't really like the 'puter hiss removers, at least not the ones I've tried....they seem to really mess up the high frequencies, even the ones you are supposedly not affecting.

Gary-Do you have the link to your Waves Noise X, I have a lot of tape Hiss onmy old cassetts and real to reel and I sure would like to clean them up.....al.

It's in the Restoration Bundle. Be prepared to pay big bucks though. This stuff isn't for the average Joe. Also, these are plugins that require a host application like Sonar. But it seems like I remember reading that they could be used in stand-alone format too.
There's probably a 30-day trial version that you could download to try the plugs if you're not sure of the price. For me, the X-Noise plug is a must-have.
But there are others. Sonic Foundry has some. Just do a search online for Noise Reduction Plugins (or programs) and I'm sure you'll find something in your price range.

I also tried "Audacity" with not much luck. It wont import my song files in the computer. Even "Import Raw Data". I just haven't been able to do anything with it. It loks like it could be a pretty good one.
Music Match Juke box, recognizes my song files, so other players , and some other recorder too....al.

Al, Audacity is a very good program for wave editing, I've never had a problem importing waves or MP3's. You do need to install the LAME encoder(for mp3s), but it is free. It just didn't do much for the hiss. JP
