Hello friends! I found some recordings of one of my favorite singers, Mr Ray Price. it has all his greatest hits on it. Like Crazy Arms where the steel can really be heard. Can anyone tell me who the steeler was? There are no credits to the musicians on the record....sad huh? Is it a Lap steel? Mabe? let me know!! thanks

Depending on when it was recorded, that would be Jimmy Day or Buddy Emmons.

Hi! It is a double record set, "Ray Price Greatest Hits". It has I won't mention it again"..For the good times...Little Green Apples" etc. The songs are all good, but I think he could sing any song and make it sound "great".He has always been one of my favorites!

Karen,
I have the same album. The copyright date,on the back of the album,says "1972",so its kinda hard to tell.
At times,it sounds like Day,& then again it sounds like Emmons. I would venture to say,on a "percentage basis",60%-Emmons,40%-Day. I realize that's not much help,but back then,those guys were so tight with each other,that they used to "play off" one another constantly. I could ask Buddy,but that was so far back that I don't think that even he would remember. Sorry I wasn't much help. Best I can do.

| I have the book that came with the Ray Price 10 CD box set from Bear Family records. The book contains all of the particulars about each song, taping date & time, musicians, etc. Let me look it up and I'll get back to ya. I think it was BE. | According to Winnie's book, page 118, column 2, it was Jimmy Day on Crazy Arms. Will confirm with the Box Set book once I find it again. |
