Just me and the Band-In-A-Box:

Pagan Love Song - the Hawaiian standard on E9th
Kitchen Blues - a blues tune on C6th

Warning, these files are sort of big. Over 4 MB each.

Nothing spectacular here - just a late night demo session on the Williams D-12 crossover. Note that the funky tone on Kitchen Blues was deliberate. The Williams normally sounds a lot sweeter than that!

b0b, I love Kitchen Blues! Your tone is great - sounds kinda retro lo-fi.
Cool.

What kind of sound board (processor) are you using with BIAB? The bass and drum sounds are awsome!

I exported the BIAB tracks into Garage Band. The instruments in Garage Band sound a lot better than BIAB.

Thanks for posting these. Pagan Love song was a favorite of my mother, she would have loved your version. I have not heard the other yet due to my slow dial up. Looking forward to it.
PS...Finally heard it, very good, very clean.

Hey b0b,
On that "Pagan Love Song",you sound just like Jerry.

No,not Jerry Byrd.......Jerry Schwartz, the grocer from down the street.

b0b,

Thanks for the info on Garage band. I just upgrade my Mac G5 with the latest version of BIAB for Mac but I haven't expored Garage Band yet. The samples on Garage Band from your recording are outstanding. Much better than the Roland Sound Canvas software I was using on my PC.

Exporting from BIAB to Garage Band is a trick. You have to download a utility that splits up the tracks into individual MIDI files. It's all documented at the PGMusic web site.

I recorded the steel in Garage Band, via a Digitech Genesis 3 amp simulator.

Sounds great, b0b!

The blues cut is great, but I really appreciate the hawaiian song on E9th. It confirms my feeling that the E9th is the best for playing hawaiian on pedal steel (since Buddy and Jimmy developed most of the changes to enable those killer Jerry Byrd slants).

Very nice indeed, great tone, great playing, but it is GAS-attack inducing - I just have to get me one of those 16 track hard drive recorders...

b0b, what EQ settings do you use to sound so much like Jerry Byrd on a pedal steel? I never manage to dial in that lapsteel sound.

These were recorded on my Mac laptop, Per, not on a 16 track HD recorder. I used a Digitech Genesis 3 to dial in the steel tones, but a Pod or a mike on my amp would have worked just as well.

I've always believed that the music comes from the musician, not from the equipment. I use whatever equipment is at hand. It doesn't make a big difference - it always sounds like me!

Thanks for all the compliments, everyone.

Thanks for sharing those nice pieces. I haven't heard "Pagan Love Song" in years. Now I can't get it out of my head. I have BIB but haven't tried to do much with it yet.
