I just saw a great and very moving documentary on Joni. I really enjoyed it, what an artist and what a progression she has made. From folk through rock to jazz....
I saw her play a great song called "Sex kills" with bass player Larry Klein and a steel guitar player on lap steel.
Now, does anyone know who that steel player was?

Probably Greg Leisz. He gets all the good gigs.

I saw Joni Mitchell in concert on Trio (a cable channel that seems to focus on music topics, concerts) and it was Greg Leisz on that show. Played lap and an early (decal club) D-10 P/P and sounded great. NOT country... but way cool.

It was in the round and was apparently a limited attendance kind of event. Instead of normal seating, there were a whole bunch of couches, easy chairs, etc. surrounding the stage, as if to make you feel like you were in your living room.

They did a couple of tunes off of Hejira, right off the bat, one of my all time favorite records. Joni is an extremely talented person and that would be a really fun gig IMO.

Saw that today - that is exactly how I want to play when I grow up.

I can tell you for a fact, that gig wasn't exactly fun for Greg. Even on that level, there's rarely enough time for sufficient rehearsal. I think Greg just wanted to get through it. He pulls it off every time because he's great.
