Topic: Ideal scale for lap steel |

I'm in the market for a lap steel but don't know much about the technical side, like scale length. I'd love to find something with a 25" scale length but is there anything made using that scale. All the ones I own have
shorter scale. What's the typical (if there is such a thing) for lap steel?

I have a 25 1/2" which was built by Supro/Valco called an English Electronics. It does sound better for my stuff than the shorter scale steels.

Bob....The standard SuperSlide has a 22 1/2 inch scale, however MSA will accomodate those who may prefer a different scale.
In addition, because the guitar has a modular design, the scale can also be changed to something else later if desired. |

My 10-string Hughes is a 24.5". (Beautiful and for sale on this forum)
I think Rick Aiello's new DustPans are available in long scale, as were some of the "Jerry Byrd" pans, and Fender Stringmasters came in 3 lengths, somebody help me on that bit of history. Myself I like 22.5 to 22 7/8 like God intended lapsteels to be.  |

Being born and raised out here in what used to be the isolated part of the world of country music..........had its advantages, I guess. Had no knowledge of these different scale lengths; no reason to know. Less confusion getting started and all. We just took what was given us and played the heck out of it. Oh well...........
We started tilting our amps on chairs behind us in about 1950........had no idea it would affect our minds.....leaving us "not entirely on the level". |
