There's a kid in the neighborhood whose grand dad just gave a cute National 6 string lap steel. Right now, it is strung up C6.
He wants to learn. Any suggestion where I should start with him. What's a good method book or video series.
Thanks

I'd like to see Jonathon and Austin give this kid some tips. Really.

I know you've all heard this before from this ole guy, and I don't know how old the
grandson is, but I've taught my 7 (now 9) year old grandson to play in A and E major, it's so easy to get a tune and be able to strum in the chords. He can play Steel Guitar Rag and San Antonia Rose for example. Only a suggestion especially if he's a young'un.

This young man is 15 years old. He can play a little mandolin, and read some music.

It would give him a clearer and more complete perspective to start with A & E tuning and then gradually (by way of E7th, C#m7th, B11th) work up to C6th (and C6/A7).

They all have the same 12 notes in them, they're just in different places.

The Jerry Byrd Course is the most comprehensive steel guitar study. Jerry also made a seminar video which is excellent, and the two go together perfectly.
