Just got off the phone with Kyle who told me that the first batch of MSA Superslides will be shipping next week!!
He said the tone is unbelievable.
Now for the big problem: what tuning an I going to put on my 12 String Superslide? |

Maybe when some of our forumites receive their their new "Superslides", one of them will post a sample sound clip or mp3 of that "unbeleivable" tone,so that the rest of us can hear it also. A few of us (like me) didn't make the Dallas show and consequently did not get to hear or play one for ourselves.
Untill I hear it for myself,I will just have to wonder if it sounds like a Ricky,a Stringmaster,a Sierra,an MSA,or a Superslide.
...better yet, maybe we could get Reece to play us a tune and post a sample on the MSA website! That would be a real treat!
How about it Reece???

Yee - Haaaa.....
12 strings sounds to me like a full-on 13th or diatonic waiting to "explode" !

Awhile back, Reece recorded a cassette "Steel Playin Texas Swing" using a 12 string Boen lap steel. My understanding of the tuning he used is as follows:
D (tuned 1 step above 5th string C)
B (tuned 1/2 step below 5th string C)
G
E
C
A
G
E
C
A
F
D (tuned to C for 2 songs on tape)
He got an awful lot of music out of this tuning; e.g., Charmaine, Deed I Do, etc. I've always wanted to try a tuning like this on a 12 string lap.

Yes, I was going to try that. Also I've been talking to Roy Thomson about creating a tuning that would basically split the neck between a Levitt and a 6th tuning |

Wayne C....I appreciate your suggestion. I believe a sound sample has the potential to be misleading because of sound enhancement, recording studio isolation, recording techniques, player proficiency and touch.
Each of us have our own perception and preferance of tone, therefore we are all unique in our "touch".
I further believe most would be astounded at how different a guitar would sound were they to have the opportunity to play their favorite players guitar just after hearing them play.
They could no more sound like their favorite player, than their favorite player could sound like them on their guitar.
The tone thats in your hands will always and continually seek that which is uniquely you. |
